The thing about the dual carb heads is that they flow better than the single carb heads. The head has more to do with the performance than than the dual carbs. Yes the dual carbs are much more of a pain to get right. When you do get them right they do work great. The dual carbs will only do good if you use the matching dual carb head. When the XR600 went to the single carb head it lost 5 to 7 or so hosespower.

If you go with the XL600 head, remember that this will increase your compression. Since you are already using a 10.25:1 piston, the resulting compression should be around 11:1. This will most likely require higher octane race fuel. This is especially true if you are at low altitude, and by my measure all of North Carolina is at low altitude. Without that race gas the piston may fry.

I'm with you on the reliability factor. I like my air cooled XR600. Something I once heard from an old Apollo engineer. "the most reliable part is the one I didn't use." No radiator and cooling system to break, and no battery to fail. The only time I want a electric start is when I'm hurt in a crash, or stuck on a crazy hill. The rest of the time I have no issue with the kickstart.

I'm not trying to be a troll, but the only thing we know about you is your posts. This includes not only the content, but the grammer too. Your content is great. The presentation could be better. It might not seem like it, but this is really one of the most troll free zones around. I guess your post kind of drew them out.

What's the point in doing the same thing everybody else does? Sometimes it's cool to go against popular opinion. Hopefully, you can teach us all something. Maybe next year everybody on this board will be talking about doing Glenn's Mods instead of Dave's Mods.

I just finish reading your thread (Too Many Caps:naughty: ) I could swear that I've seen posts about dual carbs and how awful they are. Mainly, they are a nightmare to get in synch; unsteady idle; and difficult jetting. Nevertheless, it'll be interesting to see them on the xl. Let us know how it goes. And pics please!
