im pretty sure the YZ and WR are very much identical mechanically and physically nowdays especially since the 07' model onwards.

The only diff now is wr has a e-start, light and bashplate standard.

But the older WR models before 07' were a bit different ratios and suspension, fuel tank carby etc.

Im getting the 07 wr250 this weekend, pickin it up for 5180 aft fees. I would buy two of them if I had the money. only difference between 07 and 08 is the color of the covers. Cant wait to pick it up.

You can add lights, but you can't ad e-start.  And when your stuck on an off camber hill and you can just push a button, you'll thank yourself for buying the WR.

Other than valving and springs, are the forks and the shock the same on the YZ and WR?

R vs X on the Hondas, they have different wall thicknesses.

Very very true statement. The "E" button is a liefesaver. :thumbsup:

The new WR450R does have a 6 speed. Some might argue that it is not a true WR but I just thought I would let you know.

YZ250F for sure.  Beats the WR any year.  Lighter, faster, better looking.  Only thing the WR has on the YZ is the lights and the E-Start and real riders don't use E-Starts.

ALRIGHT sadly enough i liked reading all nine pages of this. Because i will Most likely be 90% Trails and 10% MX. BUT I ride on a pipeline its about 7 Half Ton Trucks Wide, 4 Somewhat big Hills, not many bumps at all and its at least 1-2 Miles long. But on the Trails that connect to it they happen to be smoother and about a Toyota Tacomas Width . Would you guys think the YZ would be Fine? and the Pipeline is Almost a Perfect Straight Away were i can pin it all the way through on my Blaster 200 in 6th.

I have no problem doing any type of trail on my YZF, I honestly can't why people complain about riding an MX bike in the trails. I dropped it down by 2 teeth in the back, softened the suspension with the availble settings (I'm 175lbs) and I'm good to go, although my top speed licks nutsack. The WR250 is damn heavy and sluggish in comparison, but the top speed is nice. I don't need lights and e-start would be nice but how hard is it to kick over a bike? I can also run it hard for 4-5 hours in the bush and it doesn't overheat and still has a little fuel left.

I never ride track, 100% trails.

Hi guys.

Yesterday i received my new YZ 250 F 08 and today i have passed the all day riding it in a nice valley over here.
I am in love with my new toy :banghead:

I do mostly enduro and medium/hard (not hardcore :D ) hillclimbs and i bougth the YZ for having more power and less weigth comparing to the WR.
My choice :busted:
It´s important to say that i come from a WR 450 from 05 that is a very good bike but heavy as well for the places i normally drive.

I bougth my YZ already with some precious mods, modified suspension (softer and lower), black Excell wheels with 18 wheel at the back and the most important issue for enduro ride the  WR gearbox.

you forgot to tell us what you want to ride YZ or WR. My son has a yzf250 i ride a drz if you sre on the track the yzf shines, if your in the woods the drz is top notch. what do you do the most. and what do you like to do. my son likes riding in the woods to. but you got to draw a line.

Hi Tiago :D

Looks great your new ride. really cool with the Excel rims:thumbsup:

Thinking of trading in my CRF250x for a WR250.

I have owned both bikes. I prefer the WR due to versatility. The YZ can be ridden on trails in most states, but it's really a track bike. I rode my YZ on some precarious trails where the e-start would have been nice. The kick stand is also nice-no more looking for something to lean the bike on. My WR is plated-I can ride it right out of my driveway, or connect trails by road without getting fined. The WR is much easier and cheaper to plate (my DS kit was $150. and used the stock head/tail lights). BTW, my steel frame '06 WR is .8 lbs. heavier than the aluminum frame '07 according to Yamaha, and its much easier to work on:thumbsup: Also, the AIS removal mod is of little or no performance benfit, and CA trail riders are looking to replace the AIS systems they removed and tossed because rangers have photos of what your engine should look like and will kick you off the trails:banghead:

i have an 03 yz 250f and i ride quite a bit of trails i am able to stay right with the honda 400 and i also ride track every now and then. i have never over heated or had any other kinds of problems with the yz on trails while still keeping that track performance.

I believe ANY WR is better than ANY YZ at trail riding.

case and point. my WR flys over whoops at 50+mph like they were nothing. YZ/CR have such stiff suspension I would be in the clouds, literally

oh did i mention, my WR250F goes 93mph and can beat an uncorked CRF450X

YZ=TRACK RACING
WR=OFF ROAD RACING

designed for a reason

-JORDAN

p.s. there is a 2 wheel drive WR. BEAT THAT 2 SMOKERS
