Fuel?

What is the correct fuel to run in your 4 stroke engine? I 've heard about not using SHELL or any gas containing methanol? What about Sunoco's 100 octane with ethanol?

91 pump gas. Just make sure you pump out 2 gallons into your car or truck before fueling your bike or gas can if it's one of those single nozzle pumps. Otherwise, you may end up with a gallon or so of 87 depending on what was dispensed out of that pump last. I believe the manual says the fuel may contain up to 10% etahnol.

91 pump gas.

That's all that is required. The manual says 95, but that's Research octane. The Research/Motor average method used on U.S. gas pumps is actually equal to or slightly above 95 RON.

Don't pay more for more octane, as it will do nothing for you. Your concern is that your fuel is fresh, runs well, and that is has enough octane that your bike doesn't ping on it.

Okay, I get what your saying but, isn't race gas cleaner? Therefore keeping vital engine parts cleaner?

I've heard guys using fuel additives like sea foam in them. I was always curious about this as I know ethanol and methanol can corode lines pretty badly. As for fuel i too just get the ol' premium and call it good. Now that my brother has a 450 i can just steal a little of his gas :mad:

ive been runnin shell v-power in my 250f since day one. No problems, knock on wood.

Some is, some isn't. If the fuel is blended for your application, and it's a top brand, it's likely true that it will burn cleanly. If it's wrong for your app, like a fuel made for carbureted cars, or aircraft engines, it very well may not. Besides, the top major brand automotive pump fuels are loaded with injector cleaners and carbon solvents, and will keep things pretty clean.

I've had nice results with VP U4 but it's a bit of a pain to use unless you aren't racing and looking for that last few hp.

What Joe jet said...

MX Action Magazine said the same thing: For stock four strokes Engines, just use 91 or 92 Octane (R+M)/2 Method.

If you increase the compression (i.e. go with a higher compression piston), THAN you will have to go with a higher Octane fuel.

Who do you consider a top major brand automotive pump fuel? I use pacific pride 91 pump gas. And I am thinking it not up to par with a gas such as chevron. Do you know anything about pacific pride's gas? Is it dirty?

Chevron, Mobil, Unocal, Arco, etc.

Here's a dirty little secret. The gasoline your station pumps comes from a truck, right? Find out where that truck gets filled up, and go over there and watch for a while. What you will see is that all of the different brand gas tankers fill up from the same storage tank. It's all the same gas. The only difference is the additive package that gets dumped in the empty tankers before they leave their respective yards. Now, that can be an important difference, but I'll bet that it's nothing like you thought, is it?
