Baja 1000 and the BRP - XR650R

Recommended Posts

TT "coffee" is keeping a Baja updates thread going (easy baja 1000 questions... ), in the TT International forums section.

Re TT-er's riding BRP's in the 1000 next week, what I've gathered so far is:

- 304x - motochris, stolidog, +

- 307x - surfnride, bajaboundmoto, +2 others

Any other TT-er's racing BRP's in Baja 1000 next week?

Are any of those guys on 4x members of TT?
I'm new here, found the sight when i was looking for some technical info. re: my son's kx500. Have not had a chance to talk to these guys about the sight, so i don't know if they are tt members. They are friends of mine and my son and i did go down one week end and pre ran ojos negros to valle trinidad with bobby kirby, the youngster of the group. That's when my son's bike got fried, hence my search, and discovery of TT.

Internal- Rob- Combustion...Thanks again for the donation!!!

I just realized I sold your son a stock 650R cam last month--he's in Colorado, you're in Penn...I thought the name was the same--but, since you don't exactly live next door to each other...anyway, I just saw that he's "son of combustion"

The bike is ready, tomorrow I deliver it to Scott Myers. He's doing the start...

Friday predawn Tim and I, and several others are heading for Loreto. approx 20 hour drive...Yikes..

Good luck to everyone!!!

 one more 650 team to follow is 4x, four vets and a young buck out of d38. They're all solid riders, and the kid is points leader this year for open expert d38.

Tuck??

Cuz between him and Corfman... I'm going to catch those youngsters this weekend... I almost had 2nd last race, but I pulled over and helped out a stranded 12yr old racer. I know.. excuses.

... It'll be cool to here how they do!!

Good luck to them!!

?

... just read your post update ...

It's Bobby Kirby that's racing with 4X? If so... he should do well. I wish him luck.

(how young is he??)

Its always nice to hear that some cares more for human life than the win! Right on!

Lol... it wasn't life threatening :bonk: ... but the poor little guy was ridden past as he tried and tried to get his bike up. Who passed him? Well... the guy I was chasin' for 3rd overall... when I helped out the little guy, he was so polite and said a big thank you. Made it all worth it. All this while I watched and thought my position was lost. I was stuck in 4th overall.

To top it off, coming around and back in the pit... I was held for a 2min penalty. Claimed as passing in the pits. What?! I was trying to retape my fender card as I rode and didn't notice a guy putting along the pits looking for his wife! Oh well, told the story about the little guy I picked up and he cut me loose at 1min.

I pitted, and rode to pass Kirby for 3rd overall on the last lap.

AND YES... I'd do it again! Great kid, and boy was he tired. He couldn't pick up his bike in a super rocky/sandy section.

... I bring all this up because you can see him in BBR's DvD on the race. It's a $15 DvD that's pretty cool. They video and get stills of ALL the racers. Kinda nice... and the little guy (51X) is shown as he rides into a wash... SUPER tired, where he ends up taking a digger in a corner. Great video work by BeerBellyRacing.

D38 is some good times. ?

Happy to help.

Re the cam, small world! FYI, he's got his 650R back together and on the street, his daily commuter. He says its running good now. Thanks for helping him out. Small world!

Have a good trip down, a safe race.

Above all, have fun.

Godspeed.

Hey guys, I'll bite. It's all about the money, thats why they're racing the X, they're trying to sell their over priced cheap peace of tin. Let's see that wimpy 450 make 1000 miles stock lik eyou can on a 650. BRP guys, I'll be rooting for you just so Honda feels like they're the stupidest people ever.

Go

4X

304X

307X

And anyone else out there racing a 650, especially TT'ers

I think Bobby's 21 now. And now that you mention it, I think aaron tuck is doing the 1000, if he is i don't remember who he's teamed with.

Gotta find out, I'd give him a shot at overall if the things were to fall together, depending on who he's teamed with.

Just one question though.... I wonder how close to stock the Honda teams

X's motor will be?

It'll have to be titanium everything to get through a 1000 miles WFO.

Hell, their 650's are sucking oil at the end of the race.

Motors in both bikes were specially built in Japan. Nobody really knows whats in 'em, but I bet they're nice.

The 450X will never do it (the 1000) like the 650R but that fact that the little thumper has done so well this year so far deserves some credit. What will you say if the 450X does a SCORE hat trick in 2006?

I dusted the cob-webs off my BRP a couple of weeks ago after a couple of years off. Now it looks like I'm racing the 1000 with the Huckin Chicken. Sadly - I don't think we are riding a 650. Good luck to everyone else racing ....be safe and have fun.

You are right, if Honda pulls one off with the 450x, we gotta swallow our pride and give Honda credit.

But (according to motochris) the engines are special, built-to-race units. Ain't the same. We all know you can flog the piss out of a 650R during a Baja 1000, and then ride it home, wash it off, change the oil, and ride it all next year.

Yeah, the rags will all be cooing over the 450x and praising Honda if they win, but... we will all know The Truth.

I am not blaming Honda. Heck-fire, probably only 2 vehicles in a 100 are show-room stock (2-wheel, 4-wheel, any manufacturer). Honda is only wanting to strut their stuff with the 450x.

Problem is, I'm 6-2, 220. I need a big bike or I look like I'm riding a 50.

Okay, I'll stop my whining.

Here's to a good, safe, FUN event, next Thursday. May the best team win. And hats off to you solo dudes!!
