2006 YZ450F Exhaust

Does anyone know of any magazine that has done an exhaust shootout for the 2006 YZ450F?

I would think so, but i dont remember one. Ive def. seen them for crf450s

Just looking to see what exhaust gives the best overall boost in torque and power throughout the powerband.

From what I have seen and herd about the Dr.D is the best for the YZ450F. I have the FMF Factory 4.1 slip on and it added a great deal of power but 2nd gear revs out kinda fast.

Dr. D and Big Gun EVO systems seem to be the most preferred for the 06.

I had an FMF slip on Powercore (the $299 one) and it worked very well - kind of livened up the response and power across the board and was much lighter than the stock pipe and about the same sound level. I always ran it with the spark arrester screen also. I believe FMF makes a quiet insert for this pipe but I did not try it. I now have the full Lee Vince carbon/Ti system on the bike. Very smooth power down low and stronger pull through the mid to top. Sound is quieter than stock and it came with a couple of different end caps including a spark arrester. After have tried both I think the FMF at 299 is a the best bang for the buck.

When you are trying to decide between two systems that are fairly close in performance, and we're talking about hair-splittingly close (maybe 1/2 hp on a bike that makes 50), and one is priced at $800+ and the other at $450, the Dr.D starts to look real good, yes.

I like mine just fine. Improvement through the entire range, weighted to the low end, which is where the bike is weakest with the stock system, and very well made. A great value, IMO.

Is the Dr. D alot shorter than the stock exhaust?

Yes, considerably. The muffler extends just 5" beyond the rearmost point of the number plate.

The WB Carbon Pro, and I'll assume the Aluminum Pro, is as short, if not perhaps an inch shorter, but that's all. Don't know of any others for sure.

The wb pipe and dr. d are about the same as performace goes correct?

Is the WB carbon pro a better pipe than the Dr. D? Are they about the same as far as power delivery?

My 05 had a Carbon Pro that was Great everywhere

My 06 has a DMC great initally mediocre mid range no real over rev gain.

My 07 has a Yoshamura, its a little better all the way through and AMA sound legal.

My buddies 07 has a DrD which was like a combo of both the DMC and the Yosh but it seemed a little louder. The DrD had better bottom end than the Yosh but maintained the mid and over rev of the Yosh pipe

I prefered the Dr D to all of them but wish they had a titanium version which I understand is coming next month, this weekend I saw a titanium version at the Vet Worlds.

What did it look like and also why do you want a titanium exhaust, weight? Just curious...

The Dr.D carbon fiber version looks pretty good.

I tend to worry more about sound than power. IMHO go with a quiet core.

I run the FMF Powercore with the stock header for about 4 months. Better responce and sounded great. I just installed the FMF Megabomb header and I can say it really makes a difference in power on the low end. Plenty of hi rev as well. The bike really pulls from the bottom end. An added beneift is that the megabomb made the bike even quieter.

Good luck on your pipe. I can't afford to slap all the brands on but I have always been pleased with any FMF product.
