XR 600 redline

Does nayone know:

1. the redline of a stock XR600?

2. rpm that peak power is developed on an XR600?

3. rpm that peak torque is developed on an XR600?

since there are no answers yet, I'll chime in because I just had my 650L dyno tuned. Some related (however inaccurate) info is better than none at all.

The 650L redlines at around 9,000rpm, and makes peak power around 7000. If peak power is a concern for you, I'd say the ideal shifting point from what I saw on the dyno would typically be about 7500rpm...but it's hard to tell if you're there without a tach. Take it in 3rd gear all the way to redline at least once, so you know what it sounds like, then you can SORT of gauge, how far about you are in the rev-range.

Obviously make sure you've done a good checkup on the bike, new oil, etc, before trying to redline it :mad:

The 600 has a lighter piston and a slightly shorter stroke, 80mm vs 82 mm, than the 650L. I would expect the numbers to be about 500 rpm higher as compared to a 650L. If I remember correctly, the peak torque is at 5500 and peak hp is at 6000. That's corked from the factory. Uncorked peak hp will be at 7000 or higher.

The main reason I like my 600 is the torque at 2000 rpm and the nice flat nature of the torque curve..

Thanks for the two replies. I just installed a Vapor that has a tach and a speedo. The tach is cinsistent, but the speedo may need some adjustment. I was trying to get a feeling for rpm and speed in a particular gear.

I have the Vapor on my 96 XR600R. My engine was built by Al Baker's XR's only last year and I've had mine up to the 10,000 mark and it pulled really hard. My engine isn't stock anymore though. I'm running the JE 10.5:1 piston that is bored 3mm so its a 628cc. I'm also running a Hotcams stage 1 cam, with Kibblewhite valves and springs, hard faced rockers. Again, how accurate is the Vapor?

yeah, I'd like a tach on my 650L...hmmm, I'll look into that.

Trailtach Vapor should be dead accurate depending on how well you calibrate it. I think my TT endurance is about +- 1 mph below 50 and right on till about 100+, clocked by radar, don't ask.....and the vapor, which will be my next computer is as accurate, hafta see about the tach but most electronic tachs are +- 10 (ten) rpm or so.
