Exhaust choices- 06 450F

Recommended Posts

Ha, I think this was suggested recently. Not really interested in spending another $400 without knowing what to expect. I guess if I had more confidence that the MRD would help, that may push me to eBay my Dr.D. Kinda in a weird spot at the moment.?

Were in Cali do you live?

Does anyone have a web site for MRD? I can't find any info on them anywhere, other than a few posts here. How about a pic of the pipe?

San Diego county

Too bad, I'm up in L.A., I was going to say we could meet up and go to the track sometime, so you can try out the MRD.

Thanks Ranger ?

No prob.:worthy:

Okay, thanks a lot Ranger! :ride:? Now you've got me second guessing my almost decision to go with a Dr. D... has anyone tried this pipe anywhere other than the MX track? How long does it take to receive the pipe?

I take my bike out to the desert every now and then, and it helps alot, especially on hill climbs. Also on those wide open wooped out trails, the friking thing flys. The power never flattens out.

When I called dave at MRD he said he was a little busy, but that I'd have my pipe in a week, and sure enough it was at my door step a week later. If he's not busy, you could probably get it sooner. Dave is the man.:ride:

The pipe is louder than stock, but it's not one of those pipes that is so loud it makes you wish you were deaf. It just has a nice deep tone. If you want MRD offers a quite core for an extra $15.

No, I have not tryed a Dr. D. But like "rickk" said, he is not overly impressed with the Dr. D's low end.

I honestly was a little skeptical about putting an exhaust on a bike that already had so much power. I wasn't sure if it would really make a big difference. In reallity it made a huge difference. My brother describes the change as "it's like the bike had asthma before"

Honestly I have not tried any other exhaust, so I can't say if a differnt pipe will make more power or not, but look at it this way. For the price of a MRD pipe, you can still afford to send your carb to ZIPTY and get their carb mod.

Question - are the pipes interchangeable between the '06 and '07?

Are you refering to all pipes, factory pipes, or MRD?

I would imagine that the MRD full system is interchangable.

In regards to the factory stuff, I know the header is different, but I don't know that it makes a difference.

Here's where I'm at- I can get an 07 model Dr. D with sparky for $432 and some change. I can get the MRD Pro-Comp with a sparky for $439, plus he'll weld on some mounts for the heat shield. According to Dave at MRD, his low-mid spec pipe is very similar to the Dr. D in power and throttle response. Both systems ship free, which one do I get??? I keep going back and forth on which one I want, anyone want to offer up some advice?

>Dr.D is well known, MRD is lesser known.

>I don't like the looks of the header on the MRD that I've seen, but I'm not buying one right now, so that doesn't really count.

> MRD will give you a forever unconditional warranty the includes crash damage (unbelievable, but that's what I hear. Might want to check it out.)

You probably can't go wrong with either, although you'll find a ratio of 7:1 favoring the Dr.D on this forum.

Well, my choice was made for me- I just finished up grad school, and as a "congrats" my dad is sending me a Dr. D system. Aside from that, i probably would have gone with the MRD, just because Dave was so helpful in answering all my questions. I don't think I'll be disappointed though.

steve97060, I got the pipe from www.qualitysmart.com. The guy who runs the site is or was a TT member and has treated me well in the past. Right now he's offering $50 off, but it's only through tomorrow so I'd act fast if you're interested. Price without a sparky would be about $417 shipped to you.
