My 02' WR426 has 3 leads (one of which is not in use) from the tail light and the bulb has dual filaments so Im assuming the unused lead is for attachment to a rear brake pressure switch.

Can anyone confirm this?

You are correct. Just make pigtail power wire and add a brake switch (mechanical or pressure) and complete the circuit. I think I had to change the bulb as well to a two filament type, but check yours.

Ya its got the proper wiring, make sure to use a heavy duty lamp or an LED or you will be replacing the bulb often.
