'99 yz400f

Hey, my nephew is looking for a new bike, he has 2 years experience and is 14 is about 5'8" to 5'9" and 160 lbs. I found a 99' yz400f for 1799. would this fit him.

In my opinion, that is a lot of bike for a 14 year old with only 2 years experience. He would be better suited with a 125 two stroke or at most a 250 if you ask me. Just my 2c.

He'll kill himself with only a couple years experiance. A XR250 or maybe a XR400 if he's a good rider. Sorry just being honest and can still remember how dumb I acted (and rode)at 14.

A YZ250F is a perfect bike for a 14 year-old that size, based on my experience with my son. He got his at 13. Smartest purchase I ever made.

I got my 400 after only riding for 2 years...I had no problems with it...

However it's probably 'cause I was 16, 6' 210lbs.

But my dad is scared of it though...I would highly reccomend a 125 or 250f.

Like the rest said a 400 is a lot of bike for a 14 year old. But it depends on the rider. If he is good and responsible them maybe.

250F. I got a 450F after a year of riding on a 125 and I weighed 185lbs and it was still way too much.

i got a wr426 with not that much riding experiance (maybe a 4 hours... on a quad) but i'm 20 5'6" 200#s. i still can't handle it good except on long straigt aways and big sweeping turns and am thinking of getting a 250 for the track and keeping this for dunes/desert. i'd say a 250 would be great for him.

ps... what does he have now???

right now he is on his second bike, its a kx100, he only rides on my friends land only a few jumps

i have a son,17, on a yz125 and I have a yz400f. He would love to ride the 400 and i have let him a few times. Sure is scary watching.He does not have the fear/respect thing yet. I would say a yz125 of a 250f. The 250f will be his next bike. He has been riding since 13, so about 4 years exp. He went from a big wheel kx80 to the yz125 without much probs. from a kx100 to a 400 imo would be a huge leap.

Not sure how tall your son is, but when I was 14 i wasn't very tall at all. The yz400f's got a 39" seat hight; that's really high. I'm 6'1" and I'll still probably throw some lowering links in my '98 yz400...when i finish rebuilding the motor and actually get to ride the darned thing...

hey i got a 99 yz 400 yesterday im 15 5'9 130 pounds with 2 years experence on a ttr 230 and its fast but u have to know ure limits but i love the bike its an alsome bike

I he was 20 years or older I'd say go for it. I got my 400 with virtually no expierence and I'm doing ok with it but I'm 27 and not as dumb as I was at 14. It's not that it would be impossible to ride but that's a whole lotta bike for a teenager. Get him a smaller bike.

Seriously, What people forget is that it is way better to over ride a smaller bike for too ling then move up instead of getting a big bike and trying to learn how to ride fast. It takes alot of practice to overcome bad habits and unconcious fears from riding to big a bike too soon.

(son) I went from a dr-z 125l to a yz426f and did just fine. But it definitly takes some time to get comfortable with that much bike. 6,2 230lbs.

Haha, i bet. I just sold my Yz250 and am looking for a Wr250f. It was a mid-90's yz so it didnt hit as hard but that damn thing sure did have some mid-high power. It was not the best woods bike because of the power ranges and tendency to stall but the easy restarts made it bareable. The 03' wr250f is sitting pretty in my mind.

I am female, 140lbs, 5'8" I have had my 99 yz400f for 4 seasons now next summer will be my 5th season with that bike. It was my first dirtbike ever. However I rode and did some track days/schools on sport bikes for 8-9 years before dirt(90 gsxr 750, 01 gsxr 750, 99 yzf R6, and 01 gsxr 1000, yes 1000) so i gained respect for speed and power from those bikes. Anyways i was totally fine with the yz400 but then again i was 28 when i bought it.

but for a 14 year old boy i would go smaller........
