Paddle tire!!

want to put a paddle tire on my 06 WR450F.

Any recommendation and why that tire?

6 paddle?

8 paddle?

10 Paddle?

I run the Kings 8 paddle. works great. go for the 8 or 10 though

I ride mainly in the desert and have considered the paddle however there are always some hard packed sections to go through and they bugger the paddle completely.

Whenever the sand gets to soft I just try speed up to stay afloat on top. I can imagine however that in sand the paddles do kick butt though. let us know how you get on ?

I built a whole new rear wheel and put a 10 paddle on it with a 52 rear sprocket. You've got the power for 10, and you'll get much better traction with two paddles on the ground at all times. I rode in Glamis from the early 70's until two years ago when I moved to Oregon. They have some dunes up here, so my 2005 WR450 still gets me where I want to go, just not as fast any more. My last bike was a YZ 490, and I had a 10 paddle on it also. The guys with CR 500's had more power, but not as much traction trying to pull long sand hills like Oldsmobile and in the really soft stuff. They should be about the same price.

i've used the kings tire 977 like clark, and the cheng shin paddle. both 8's. i like both of them. i think the KT is built better. either way, i think you'll be fine.

i've never tried a 10 paddle, but the 8's work great for me.

I can second the King's Tire recommendation. I've run an 8-paddle on my CR250 for a couple of summers now when I go to the dunes and it's worth the money if you're gonna spend you're whole day in the sand. Be careful however if you have a larger-than-stock rear sprocket w/ stock chain length, you may not have enough clearance between the paddles and the mudflap/inside of the swingarm. To remedy that, either use a smaller rear sprocket or add a link or two to the chain. Anywho, I have a 19" rear King's 8-paddle hauler (110 x 19") for sale if anyone is interested. Hasn't worn much, has lots of life left in it still. Just going to be selling the CR so don't need it any more. E-Mail with an offer if interested.

I run that same tire clark lined but am going to try out the new one from skat track next season called the intimidator. Also I highly reccomend a second wheel for it, I have swapped back and forth between paddle and knobbie so much that the bead on the paddle tire is starting to deteriorate and wont last much longer.

How many times have you swapped it out??

About 5 or 6 times, have my local shop do it and last time the guy told me that the bead on the paddle was going and probably wouldnt last another time.

I heard the skat-trak intimadator is a horrible paddle tire. I personally want to try their buffed paddle tires (probably a 9 paddle). I currently run a ams sand snake 10 paddle mounted on an 01 yz250f 19" wheel and like it alot. The cups arent to deep though so it still spins fairly easily. Hopefully I can send a tire to get buffed and molded by skat-trak in the next few weeks.

We are also looking into a major redisign of our suspension. +$$$ Yikes!!

ive ran both the king turbo and the chin sheng.

the king hooks up hard but doesnt handle as well turning cornering hard.

the chin sheng paddle seems to handle a little better, i am faster up the hills with it. it doesnt seem to pull my motor down as hard....4th gear instead of 3rd up highway hill at gordens wells.

I HAVE THE SKAT TRAK INTIMADATOR AND AGREE WITH THE ABOVE STATEMENT....IT'S REALLY A SQUIRLEY TIRE AND HEAVY AS CAN BE...I JUST SWITCHED TO THE KINGS TURBO...SHOULD BE BETTER,BUT I'LL HAVE TO REPORT BACK AFTER THIS WEEKEND.

I LIKE THE SAND PRO THAT I RUN ON THE 400 ALOT,BUT WANTED SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR MY YZ.

just swapped from a kings 8 paddle to a chinsheing 10 paddle on a 19" YZ rim, we will see how it does.

From personal experience i would not run the intimidator.. Its a waste of money. You bring the front end off the ground any and your all over the place.. The rib down the center sticks up just a bit more than the cup itself and its like riding on a knife. I rode one for 30 min and hated it... Rode the same bike with the kings and OHH SOO MUCH BETTER!
