Hey RC, come vai, abitato in Italia 4 anni fa (in Puglia vicino Taranto, erano un scambio fra La Marina Italiano/USMC)..... lo manco tanti, particlaramente la cucina. Your dry weight seems high, 32+ lb more than stock, is that all from the starter and SM wheels?

Ciao Fingers, my compliments for your good italian, you have nostalgia for Italy, isn’t it?

I will tell you that the Honda declare for US offroad version about weight is 277lbs (www.powersports.honda.com), meanwhile for Europe offroad version is 275lbs (www.dallarahonda.com).

The difference of the weight of two models is wrong, because in Europe the XR650R is street legal than there are more parts: a big (and heavy) front lamp, turn signals, rear view mirrors, an additional rear tail light, rear sub fender, rear sub frame and at least for Italy rear passenger pegs.

The weight of all these parts is about 10lbs (I have checked it), so the declared weight should be 287lbs (277+10).

And then what is wrong?

I don’t know how Honda weighs its motorbikes, without lubricant? Without liquid cooling? Without brake fluid? Without air in inner tubes? Or without wheels?.............

And I don’t know what scales they used.

However I can weigh it with two little scales, in stock configuration (like pictures of post #8) without gas only (dry weight) I’ve checked 308.37lbs (147.58 front + 160.79 rear).

By the way, my bike is SM version so about 6.5lbs more heavy to offroad version.

I post some tests makes from reliable italian magazines:

Motociclismo 8/2000 offroad version
Posted Image

137kg (65+72) = 301.76lbs (143.17+158.59)

Motociclismo 5/2004 supermoto version
Posted Image

140kg (67.2+72.8) = 308.37lbs (148.02+160.35)

Motociclismo Fuoristrada 6/2003 supermoto version
Posted Image

140kg (67+73) = 308.37lbs (147.58+160.79)

Let you see the supermoto weights are seems to mine and the offroad model is 6.6lbs lighter than the SM model, at the end I believe in all this data.

Sorry frankstr if I don’t translate these pages , but I’ve encircle the interesting data..........

P.S. My bike hasn’t the electric starter (useless weight…….)

Ciao Piero

Yes, I've noticed that nearly all aftermarket triple clamps are a bit heavier than the stock ones (if they are aluminum). Only justification for new ones are more strength or change in bar location or steering dampener mount. They are more expensive & look nicer though!

......they are more stiff, more wide (about 3/4") for supermotard use, they allow change the offset (0+5mm) and they’re more heavier than stock because there are more ergal material too.

.....They are more expensive.......
