Hopping Up a yamaha wr450???

So here is the deal. My buddy has an '05 wr450 and he wants some more power. I told him a high compression piston,13:1, and a new cam should do it. Right now he has the white brothers e2 silencer and i think a powerbomb header.

So i spend all my time in the honda forum so forgive my ignorance. Over there we run je pistons and either hot cams, web cams, or ron hamp 187 cams. What will i need brand wise with these products? Will yz motor parts fit the wr?

I don't think you will find a 13:1 comp piston for the YZ/WR's.

Big bore kit would be the most effective way of achieving more power.

je pistons makes a 13.5:1. So any other suggestions

Im thinking of hopping my 426 up this winter. Hotcams, bigbore kit with 13.5:1, and port and polish the heads. ?

Assuming he has done all the free mods.....

I would swap in the hot cams and the 13:5:1 high compression piston.

I'm not sure if the HatCams have a WR cam, but if they do.....be sure to get the YZ cam.

You could also just swap in the YZ oem cam as well. My wr has all the free mods and a YZ cam.....thats it, and it has plenty of power. I'm 6'3" and 280lb - agressive intermediate, and for the most part, its all the power I can use.

The only time I have wished for more power is when riding the big sand hills.

Just because you can't ride your stock WR450F, doesn't mean that everyone else is the same as you!

Maybe you should have got the WR250F? ?

Seriously? The wr's are dogs. They need big time motor help.

Is this the same Ginger Kid who took out a chunk of a tree not too long ago riding with you? ? If it is, are you trying to knock him off and clear up the gene pool? Give the guy a break, or just shoot him outright and end the suffering.

YZ cams will make a big difference. Also some use a cams out of the YFZ 450 quad, but studies have shown that the bike will do more donuts in a staging area and the urge to drink and ride without a helmet goes up. ?

My WR is no Dog, I done the free mods and that alone was enough for me to out drag race a stock XR650 in 1/8 mile drag, and i can wheelie anytime up to 4th gear and his righ won't come up in 4'th at all and is reluctant in third, we swaped bikes and his XR felt like a dog, maybe your buddy still has the long restrictive throttle stop in there and she's only getting 1/2 throttle.......
