Hello,

I need a piston/cyl for a 1984 XR500R, is it the same as a 1984 XL500?

engine # is PE01E-5301704.

there is a wrecking yard that has an xl500 p&c but not sure if it will work.

thanks for any advice.

Will A.

supposedly yes... from what i understand the only differences between the motors were cams and carbs? and possibly gearing... Dieselgoober probably would know for sure. FWIW, parts from an FT 500 (ascot) would be the same as well except its a 12 volt system and has electric start.

There was no 1984 XL500. The XL 500 was the old style non-RFVC motor that ended in 82. In 83 Honda introduced theRFVC motor in the XR500 and the XL600. The XL600 piston is larger in diameter than the XL600 one. I don't know if the piston pins are the same diameter or if the XL cycliner will fit on the 500 cases.

cleonard--thanks for the helpful info.

that understood, anyone have a recommended source for the P&C that I need? maybe just an oversize piston, and bore out the liner, it's too gouged for stock bore but should work with 1mm over. . .

where do y'all buy your new/used parts online???

TIA again.

XRs Only has big bore kits for these thumpers; try looking here. Hope this helps a little....
