Prior to my purchase, my XT had been stting in a barn for several years, with the harness removed. I am hoping to "Dual Sport" the beast again and can not get the switching to work. OK some of the switches do work..example, when I turn on the lights, the tail lights do come on..a plus indeed...unfortuntely the headlight does not...a drag...

Also I can't seem to figure out how the rear brake light switch should be attached or mounted????

the bike has to be running for the headlight to work on the non e-start models. on my brothers xt250 i cheated and opened up the dimmer sw and put 6v power to the main contact to get his headlight working.

Even with the battery??? Odd. I guess having the tail light work threw me.
Any thoughts regarding the turn signals? At first I thought bad ground, but I've ensured I had good grounds.

probably a loose connection or the flasher is burnt. bypass the flasher with a peice of wire and see if the lights light up at least.

my 12v xt 350 is the same way as in the headlight will not come on untill i start the bike and its a 2000. the 1992 xt225 i had with e-start lit up the bulb when ever you turned the key on. im too cheap to put the e-start kit on the 350, at $2000.00 ill kick it first!!

Yeah, the headlights don't run until you power up the bike.

The wiring is pretty simple on that bike - if you still have the harness.. do you have the wiring diagram?

I do still have the harness, but it has been cut up somewhat and has these like boat trailer connectors spliced here and there...and the odd thing is there are an odd number of them....? Go figure!
