Anything i can do for comfort in the meantime, i'm on codine but didn'y know if there was anything else that would help. Suggestions from anyone that has had similar injuries, recoupe time, etc.

Broke my right hand, clavical and broke the cup in my pelvis while dislocating my hip on Memorial Day weekend. I usually try to streatch out the pain killers by drining booze to increase the effect. The collar bone healed the fastest. I could do push ups in 10 weeks.

Well, i think alcohol i'll stay away from, good to know clavical healed quickest since i still feel my clavical bones (separation) crunching/rubbing/shifting.

for the busted ribs, hug a pillow during coughing or sneezing. Maybe even wrapping up ur midsection

I'd be one Vicodin takin mo fo. 800 mg Ibuprofins every 4 hours would be my daily deal. And I agree, drinking a beer or two with the Vicodin really takes the edge off. I don't like to take the stuff unless I am having a hard time blocking out the pain. Usually I can block out most pain, but that little part that I couldn't, Vicodin really helped me. Regarding ribs, I can only say, don't laugh, fart, cough or sneeze for a couple of weeks and you should start to feel better. I hate rib injuries.

Good Luck in your recovery -

Alcohol and acetaminophen mixed are about as bad for your liver as you can get.

Alone, either is OK in moderation, but together the hepatotoxic properties are magnified.

Tylenol, percocet, and vicodin all have acetaminophen. Watch out.

Aleve (or is it Alleve?). Over the counter analgesic. I think superficially similar to Voixx and Celebrex, so don't take it 24x7 for weeks on end. But (my PT and MD said) one a day for a week or two is fine. Aleve lasts 12hrs, so I found I didn't wake up in the middle of the night in pain. Percocet only lasts about 4hrs.

I broke my left tibia, fibula, ankle, and right wrist (dislocated thumb due to tendon tearing it's anchor point off trapezium bone) two years back.

I found that I could cut WAY back on percocet when I took aleve instead, or one aleve and one percocet instead of two percocet. Motrin (ibuprofin) also works, but make sure your doctor says it's OK- ibuprofin can made bleeding worse.

The sooner you can lay off the narcotics, the sooner your guts will work properly (opiates often cause constipation).

Part of your prescription for painkillers is to keep you from moving around too much so you can heal, not just for dulling pain. Even if you find a combination that helps, really take it easy. Some doctors have trouble understanding that people who will treat broken fingers with duct tape and some more riding, won't stay on the couch like they're supposed to, 'cause it doesn't hurt "that bad".

I tore some of the muscle and cartilage around my rib cage from falling off a bridge....dont ask!Anyway it didnt heal up for about 4 months.Anytime i coughed, sneezed or even took a piss i was in pain.I roll over sleeping and wake up in pain. The best thing for me was ibuprofren and some light stretching.I also wore my kidney belt alittle high for more support.

I broke my clavicle and punctured my lung in July of 02. The lung was the most painful of all. Hurt when going from laying to sitting or vice versa. Hated to laugh or sneeze. I took darvecet for just a few days then tried to just deal with the pain, but was hard. They gave me Vicadon at first but that made me feel ill! I did wear the brace for collarbone, it was uncomfortable but did keep the feeling of bone moving away and allowed me to work. I just could not move my arm higher than my chest. I tried just a sling but could not stand the moving bone feeling!
