I have an 02 WR 250 wtih a Grarly pipe, v-force, and a Keihn PWK carb. I am fairly happy with the stock gearing but I am less then pleased with the transmissoins ability to shift from 2nd to 1st without stopping for neatral so I think I need to just eliminate the need for first gear on a hill climb.
The stock chain is not stretched at all. Does anyone know how many teeth up I can go without having to replace the chain? If I do have to replace it what chain and lenght do I need? Am I correct in assuming there are no cross over rear sprockets for a Husky?

My '00 had 13/48 stock and I was able to fit a 51 with stock chain running the axle way up. I run a 13/52 now, but can't tell you how many links. Many rear sprockets availible from different suppliers. I always used JT steel, but last two used Huskys I bought had Renthal aluminum and they hold up really well in gruesome Northeast mud.

Not that they are any easier to find, but Gas Gas and Husky rear sprockets are the same.

I was thinking of using a 50 so I guess it should fit. A 52 must have made a major change!
Did moving the axel way forward change the handling any? I am concerned that the shorter effective swingarm length might make it harder to keep the front end down while climbing. Maybe that isn't enough of a change to worry about?

I couldnt imagine running a 50T on my WR250.
The top speed is not great already and I find the bike really "jumpy" in the tight stuff with the stock gearing. I am tempted to put a 47T on mine to try to mellow it out a bit.

It seems people with the newer WR's are gearing up instead of down. I guess they must have a lot more hit and pull then the older ones.

JT makes front and rear sprockets for 2 and 4 stroke huskys. any dealer that does parts unlimited should be able to get them. i will get you the part #'s if you cant find any.

thanks everyone, I ended up ordering a 50 tooth JT from bikebandit. I saw the deal at Halls but my choices would have been a 49 or 52.
