Can I remove the drive gear from inside the cases without harming anything if i run it like that? I don't have the tach or cable anymore, and I would like to get rid of it if possible

Thanks

Yes, but it's a hassle. The shaft needs to remain because it is the oil feed to the top end. Another fix is to put a plug or cap over the sending-unit hole. This keeps dirt and water out. You can make a plug by cutting off an old cable-end and either filling the center hole with siliconeseal or heating and pinching it closed. If you want it really sano, Honda may have a plug for the job. You never know.
