Anybody unplug their Kehien FSC TPS

Recommended Posts

I've heard of guys doing this on the earlier YZ450's. Supposedly this would smooth out the power and make the hit less brutal. I've never done it on mine so I can't say from experience if it works or not, but I do know it's possible to do. As far as the effect on your Husky, I wouldn't even venture a guess. I suppose you could try it and see what it does. I don't think there's any harm in that.

Search this forum. There is a lot of discussion about this subject. The TPS gives the CDI the ability to map the advance curve differently at lower throttle openings and lighter engine loads that at full throttle. Unplugging them generally results in timing mapped only by RPM, and assuming full throttle at all times. Whether this will cure anything on yours depends on the stock ignition map. On the '03 YZ450, it eliminates a blip in the power curve that was always mistaken for a mid range hit. There are other ways to address the problem, but disconnecting the TPS works, too.

If you have been told by a reliable source that this works on your Husky, and you decide to do this, carefully monitor the overall performance of the bike at first to see if it develops other performance issues, or pings at any point where it formerly did not. If you don't like the results, you can just plug it back in.

i've played around with mine plugged/unplugged,and have come to the conclusion that its faster to rev off the corners discoed, but it seems to put the power down more effectively connected (less wheel spin) also under load(up long technical hills) it seems to run smoother, and much more controllable connected. to me for HS it makes the ride thru tight stuff much more enjoyable connected, but for MX it might work better discoed,at least on the yami's can't say about a UCON :applause: your just gonna have to try both ways, it won't hurt anything except for the detonation factor like gray said just run 93 ?

They would not deliver the bike from factory with it if it was useless. But if you think you are smarter than Yamaha engineers, go ahead, disconnect it and never look back ?

If I thought I was smarter than the Yamaha engineers I wouldn't have asked this question on TT.

Hey goose, no humor?? Did you see my wink? I can take whatever, but won't take personal attacks, I hope you edit your post, then we can :applause:

Wink or no wink, I thought your response was un-necessarily sarcastic when I had asked a legitimate question. If that was supposed to be humor I must have missed it. Some editing and no hard feelings. ?

Goose, I appreciate your editing and am sorry for my odd sarcasm, maybe it is in different cultures. I had no bad intentions though.

I once read an article made by Daddog, also a former member here, about the dangers of disconnecting the TPS, unfortunately I did not save it in my files. It contained reasonable arguments against disconnecting. I also learned a lot of jetting from them. Their sites are today closed, dead. I remember it was a dad and his two sons, 450F quad riders from California dunes. Anyone else remember them? Their sites came via eskimo.com/daddog jetting pages or something...
