I believe in 4 strokes now!

I rode my '06 yz450 today for the first time and I Love this bike. Before I bought this I had an '02 Honda CR250. I was still skeptical about 4 strokes over 2 strokes but now I am not. Especially for an older guy like me. When you need power it is there. I have always been a Honda guy and to an extent I still am but this bike is great. I installed taller bars, moved the forks up and set the sag tp 98 mm.

I am exactly like you, honda guy 03 CR250.Skeptical about 4strokes,but my 06 yz450f changed all of that.Good luck with your new ride

When I wanted to get back onto a bike I first went to talk to the honda folks also. But after spending some time on TT I thought I'd try the YZ and it seems to have been a great decision. Tough and easy to use bike. ?

Yeah I think the 4 strokes sound way cooler in the first place. But that nice flat torque curve makes it easier to ride IMHO.

lol i am still a 2smoke guy myself 99kx250 was my last new bike. and it would have to expensive to make dual spot so i went with the wr. i loved my 2 strokes, rebuilding was a piece of cake, nothing to go wrong dependable. and now i have this $8,000 machine i am weary about changing the sparkplug. when i took it home i parked in the yard looked at the manual and watched the sun set, and still have no clue what i am doing....but i can adjust the shocks and change the oil)

Thats funny, that is my biggest complaint about my 450 is it sounds like its always farting. I think 4 strokes sound like shit if you ask me. If it sounded like a mini v-8 or something that would be cool. I think 2 strokes sound awesome. If only I could make my 4 stroke sound like a 2 stroke ring a ding ding.

To me a 4 stroke sounds like a built Chevy 350 small block, where as a 2 smoke sounds like a Honda civic with a 6 inch ricer can on the back.

for those of us who grew watching Bob Hannah, Marty Smith, Ricky Johnson, Jeremy McGrath etc etc......2-strokes sound like motocross to us.

I know what you mean, I still have my CR250. I watched Hannah, Bailey, O'Mara, Hansen and the rest. I just feel like this bike lets a guy like me (older, work too much, trying to stay in shape) go out and have fun without getting tired as fast. My CR I was always working so hard to get it around the track. The bike is all mid to top end and approaching a jump out of a turn when it isnt on the pipe was hairy. I should say I am a Vet C (novice) racer. I LOVE the hit of the 2 stroke though and there werent too many 4 strokes (06 YZ450's included) that could beat me to the first turn, they just killed me everywhere else. The flat torque curve of the YZ is awesome. I can approach a jump out of a turn and just goose the throttle and all the power I need is there "RIGHT NOW". I am rambling...I guess I feel like somewhat of a sellout for going four stroke but after riding it I am ecstatic that I bought it.

nah....just enjoy it. I had a YZF for 3 years but got the smoker because it was "now or never" kinda deal. Glad I did. There will be a thumper in my garage before I hang it up.

While I enjoy the sound of a 4 stroke, I still long for the sound of a 2 stroke, that's to me what makes vintage MX so cool.

There is nothing like the sound of a tight 490 Maico with a repacked silencer on a long up hill straight!

Amen to that ? I was racing big singles and British twins when Edison Dye imported MX to the U.S. We watched Hallman and DeCoster and Robert run around on bikes we had never seen before (actually, I had seen a CZ) and the old guys said, "You can't ride like that! How the hell can they do that?"

Wow have you ever heard a built 350 chevy, because it sounds nothing like a 450. Same for a ricer car, it actually sounds more like a 450 than a 2 stroke does. I want what this guy is smoking.

I rode my cr for 3 years before I got my 426...I have a choice, I can ride either....I always ride the 426..Im a big fan of low end grunt..I like the "Tractorness" of the four stroke..I had a lot of fun on that cr, but I guess I just like the 426 better..
