XR650R kills Vegas to Reno

I think it has more to do with aerodynamics and traction than power. At that speed it just becomes hard to find traction to overcome the air resistance. That's why those bikes peel knobs off the tires, especially on pavement where they get really hot. I noticed my bike gaining R's and the back wheel going a little sideways at about 90mph when I sat upright out of a tuck at full throttle, on a hard-pack dirt road with a little sandy dirt on top. Puckered my sphincter, for sure!

Last May I was prerunning for the 500. Me and my two partners where riding back out of the pine forest back into Ojos Negros. The rode is straight as an arrow and down hill. Accept for a Laguna Diablo one of the faster sections of any of the Score races. I slowly caught and passed the others including another 650R. When we stopped for gas at the Hiway I asked them how fast they thought we where going. They both figured we had to be going better then 100 because we where tapped out. I hit the max speed on my GPS and low and behold we did not even hit 90 (88). My bike is pretty stock except for pipe, jetting, air box and 15/48.I've raced a faster bike down there but it was by no means stock and there is no way you could get a Honda 650r to go that fast.

I know a 450 will beat a 650, but will it outlast the 650 for the baja 1000? Yes or No? You guys forget that this bike was made for the 1000. It is what it is. It is the best dirt bike Honda ever made. The 450 honda is the best motocross bike ever. A CRF will never be a big XR, and the XR will never be a CRF.

I agree. There is nothing better then a XR650R for riding or racing in Baja.....

When I said I raced a faster bike in Baja it was a C&J framed 1000cc Harley I built in 1977 and raced the 500 ,250,and 1000 in 1977.

15/48 you'll max out at around 90 - 92 mph. with a 120/90 rear.
The big XR's don't easily rev past max power rpm... even down hill :thumbsup:
I get mine to 105mph (GPS) on a flat concrete road with 15/44 120/90.
it's pretty stock, just the regular hop-up, Intake / jetting / pipe etc
Heck at that end of the limit, even a slight head wind would slow you up :applause:
Maybe thats it.... they had a good tail-wind :applause:

I hit the nevada rally experience this past weekend on my brp. with the big acerbis 6 gallon tank, rally shroud, new piston and stage 1 cam, vented air box, race exhaust, new 120 rear Maxxis desert IT and 15/47 gearing I was able to hit 100 mph on the gps. Chris Blais on the old 2004 KTM 660 rally hit 114. on the last day with a worn out rear tire, I could only manage about 93mph. tire would just spin out at wfo and not get anymore grip.
