Every Toyota ad I've seen, that had a dirtbike in it, the bike is a Yamaha....may be part of Honda's little hissy fit! Screw 'em, the rules say run the series sponsor sticker or be DQd...

This is really a non issue.

When it becomes the "honda ama motorcross series", then honda gets to call the shots. I am quite sure Toyota doesn't care one way or another about Honda. We don't see their guys on the podium much anyway.

Suzuki sells cars... are they complaining.

Yamaha and Toyota have a history of co-operation. Yamaha was involved in the 80's Toyota F1 motor program, and some other projects were shared between the companies.

Toyota owns 5% of Yamaha, deal went down in 2000. Everyone keeps saying that Honda is in direct competition with Toyota... maybe in the car market but that's it. YTD sales (as of 8/8/06) for Toyota 1.5 million and Honda is at 473K. Not even close by my math. Toyota sells more trucks in one month than Honda will sell all year. Honda has deep pockets so they could have stepped up and been the title sponsor, but they didn't because they knew that they weren't going to sell anymore vehicles by doing so. Toyota came aboard and been the best sponsor that the sport has seen. I hope the politics doesn't make them reconsider for next year.

The 'bike' in the back of the Toyota in the meteor commercial is a YFZ450, I htink. It's definitely a quad. And Toyota has had a couple of other commercials with Yamaha quads and bikes in them. A couple of years ago, Toyota was supposed to produce a special Yamaha edition of the Tundra, in Yamaha blue with stripes and lettering. Dunno if it ever happened tho.

And IIRC, a Nissan commercial I saw a few weeks ago for the Titan had KTMs in it.

I just got done reading an article in one of my mags about how honda and the ama are fighting about the outdoor series. Anyone else read it??? It said that since Toyota is sponsoring the outdoor series that the ama is requiring everyone who participates in the outdoor season to run toyota on their front number plate. Honda is in competition with toyota in the truck series and refused to run the name on their bikes because it would be promoting their competition. After hearing this the AMA said that anyone caught not running the toyota name on their # plates would be disqualified. Now that is a bunch of crap if you ask me, that would be like george bush driving around with a vote for kerry sticker on his car, i personally dont think that honda should have been forced into running their competitions name on their bikes, that should have been their right not to, but once again the ama stepped in and flexed their muscle to show everyone who is the boss.

I am not going to read every response. It does seem BS but it is hardly unusual. In road racing there are series that have a whole sticker collection that you MUST run on your bike. Same thing for AMA road racing. Pro Honda Oils Supersport? You don't see Yamaha or Kawasaki bitching over there. It is common place and really Honda should STFU.

Excellent.

Honda should be more worried about getting some of their guys on the podium. Waiting for other guys to crash out is not exactly a winning strategy.

Unless each team is getting money or support direct from Toyota, then there should be no Toyota logo on the bike.
Toyota is paying for the "series", that should do it!

Most every other form of racing does not require the series sponsor's name appear with the numbers. This is the problem with the situation; the AMA shouldn't sell advertising on the race team's vehicle without consulting them first.
Doesnt AMA require you put their AMA logo on your bike? I checked the rules and it does. How much has AMA invested in your bike?

Never seen a Bush Grand National series sticker on a Bud or Miller car? I'll bet you will if you do look. The competition is on their car. Do they bitch? NO! It's good for the overall sport. Funny thing, Suzuki seem kinda quite on the subject. They are also a car and truck manufacturer.
Excellent point! And Suzuki does build cars and bikes!

There was a sales brochure for the Tacoma, it showed the truck with a YZ450F in the bed. Then the new Tacoma with the composite bed, there was a Yamaha doing a burnout in the bed.

AMA is not the sponsor, it's the sanctioning body. Not the same thing.

I just say we agree to disagree - I've stated my opinion that I don't think it's right. And you know what they say about opinions ...

Honestly though, if anyone here could have their choice of a new Toyota Tundra, or one of those Honda Ridgeline "trucks", I think I speak for everyone when I say you'd choose the Tundra. Or even a Tacoma.

That, I do agree with. Don't see how anything that has that much plastic involved can be called a truck. I'll stick with my '85 F150 Supercab with a long bed. I could probably put one of the Honda's in the bed and still close the tailgate.

crybaby? what are you talking about? Think about it man...

Honda souldn't have to run the toyota sticker. Thats just rediculous. why support your competitors?

then honda should take up the title sponsorship.

think about it people. ANY company, be it toyota or coke or what, pay to have their company name advertized. what is shown on the tv the most? the BIkes. so where should be the name of the company that is paying for the series to even take place? on the bikes. makes perfect sense to me.

thats because toyota and yamaha r best buds. i think toyota owns 25% of yamaha and yamaha owns 25% of toyota. i think thats what i read. yamaha does work with them in F1 too i beleive.

Jaybird, I did something different, I just read the AMA rules regarding motocross/supercross. Right in the rules book, it states on page 16, section "T", All riders are required to have approved logos in place whenever they
are competing in any part of an AMA Pro Racing sanctioned event.
The following logos are the approved images to display on side number
plates, and rider apparel. Please note the unique text associated with
each. The logo is also a part of the front number plate design, which will
also include the series title sponsor.
Read em and weep!
:applause: :applause: :applause:  So it appears the Toyota logo is actually in the AMA rules, something Honda has already known all about. In fact, everyone knows about it. So there you have it. This whole thing is officially settled. Any further complaints need to be directed to the AMA. :ride:
