Yamaha Jetting kit/EGR plug or JD Jetting kit???

Just purchased 06' WR450 and I'm wondering if I need the Yamaha EGR/Jetting kit or if the JD jetting kit will have everything I need. I've been told that plugging the EGR on the bike will make no difference in how it runs? Also, on my last bike (03' WR450) I added the YZF450 exhaust cam and the bike "woke-up" substantially. Is it the same with the 06'? Is the 06' YZF450 exhaust cam the way to go or is one of the aftermarket (hotcams?) a better choice? Thanks,

I bought the Yamaha AIS removal kit and the JD jetting kit. The Yamaha kit comes with the blockoff pieces, a needle and a pilot jet. The JD jetting kit comes with two needles and several main jets. I only have one ride on my 2006 with a grand total of 27 miles but I have a ride scheduled for this weekend and i plan on experimenting with the JD needles to see what worls best for my bike. I've considered a cam for my bike because I really enjoyed the performance I got from installing a Hotcam in my XR650R. After searching the forum it looks like the e-start may not work too well after a cam install and the electric start was abig selling point for me in buying the WR. Many people seem happy with the YZ cam's performance and it was specifically designed for this engine. I know many performance cams for V8 engines are designed for a specific engine (i.e: Chevy 350) and those specs are used for other brands of engines. Sometimes I wonder if the same thing is done for MC cams.

Let me know how the JD jetting testing goes. It sounds like you could have the JD jetting without the yamaha kit, but would be working within the confines of the EGR setup. I had a YZF cam in my 03' WR and the e-start worked fine with it. The bike flat ripped with it and made it much more fun in the desert. The flip side was that it made it very difficult to "negotiate" tight trails with obstacles as the bike leaped like a motocross machine. If you ride mostly woods I would leave the cam alone, but if you're like me and spend most of your time in sandy deserts I would recommend the cam. Just my .02 cents. Keep us posted on the jetting!

I just called the dealer, asking about the Yamaha jet kit and he couldn't find anything, for any year WR...?

regardless- should I just get an aftermarket jet kit. if so which one is most complete for the money? (I'm at "sea level", did the free mods, stock exhaust with GYTR insert). not planning to do cams or anything as I ride the woods/trails here in MI and a steady throttle is pretty key.

Ask for the 05/06 AIS block off kit. It comes with the needle and jet.

Who ever you talked to today is obviously a retard because it is a common knowledge that the AIS removal kit has all the jets you need (I know because I bought one today!!!). What you really want is the block off plates from the dealer and the jet set from the JD kit. Unfortunately the JD kit doesn't come with the block off plates:banghead:

I installed the AIS removal kit and did all the mods. I ride from sea level to 3000' with my screw turned out 2 3/4. This is where the dyno has it running most efficient. I have the stock main jet. The bike rips and gets 30 - 35 mpg. no popping (keep it simple)

The AIS kit cost around $25 and the JD kit can be had hear on TT for under $75 so for $100 your bike can run great at all altitudes. Install the AIS kit then fallow the instruction on the JD kit, It's a no brainer!
