It might take in more air but that doesn't mean it breathes better. Honda does not recommend the mod without the cam. So who's right?

Dez - I am doing it to a HRC kitted XR600 - with FCRMX carby- free flowing exhaust etc etc.

Burned suggest I open the bike up as much as possible - after all most bikes are just air pumps.

Hope 'bout this stuff... cheap too... 12in x 12in ~$3.50

p/n = 9230T525

although, you might want to do long slots, instead of a big square becasue the wire diameter is very thin.

I had a 600 with the HRC 628 kit. I opened the top of the box and drilled 1" holes for White Bros. foam vents in the side cover and it ran fine. I had a 168 main and a 68 pilot also had to run race fuel to keep the octane close to a 100. Did you do the high compression piston too?

WOW, you have one heck of a ride going there. Did you notice the huge difference in 3rd and 4th gear pull after installing the 628 kit?

"Some people with just the power up kit installed have also reported good results with gains of a few horsepower above 4,500 RPM's."

As I stated earlier, Precision Concepts does not recomend the side panel mod with the stock cam.

Trail, I misunderstood at first thinking the bike was a 650R. The 600 has to have the airbox opened up to uncork it.

Have you tried it with the stock cam? With a after market free flowing filter?

Some riders out there are looking for the bike to pull harder in the mid to high rpm's and are not ready to spend the money to buy a header, pumper carb and other mod's to pull them through the big whoops at higher speeds and a little more air into the air box does help here. I do not think it's a wise mod if you do not use a water proof air filter oil like Golden spectro foam air filter oil and you ride through water.
