I have that desert sled XR630R a guy gave me. I am starting to restore it and noticed it has a manual decompressor but there is a little arm with a spring on it on the rear top of the head in the center...whats this for? It isn;t hooked up to anything but is there...??? Plus, anyone know where I can find online parts fisches?? Id love to be able to find exploded views of both my 96 and 92 online free!!!!

can we see a picture of it? I have '91 and what you described sounds like the manual decompressor, but that is located on the right-top-front of the head.

It does have a manual one jus tlike the 96, but it also has a little arm. If you had the head in your hands, and turned it so the intake ports were facing you and you tilted it so you could see the top of the head, it is right there sorta betewwn and behind the intake valve adjuster covers, it has an are with a little spring on it but no cable...it appears to be disconnected or maybe smoething automatic???? Ill look for a picture...here is a link, it isnt like this now (dirty wise) after looking at that pic, click next and youll see the manual decrompressor hooked up...thanks guys!

I have never seen that on an xr head cover, my '91 doesnt have that. Are you sure that bike is '92? It looks like it has a dual carb, and that was done away with sometime in the late 80's. I looked around but couldnt find a schematic that listed that part.

The head is off an 89 which was the highest flow and best HP producer of all the XRs, it was built by some ex-pro desert racers mechanic and the ex-racer for a dualsport playbike but Im still finding out about the bike. It is my latest project, it was free and it hauls ass! Has everything done allready and is pretty fresh on the motor.

It has to be an auto decompressor, there is another thing kjust like it down at the kickstart lever base, which leads me to beleive it is an autodecompressor. I ran the numbers and the motors a 92, but it has the 89 head and magnisium side cases on it, it has a big cam, 630ccs, ported, stainless header and falicon knife edge rod USD forks, YZ wheels and hubs, WP shock and like I said, when I get thru with it it will be fast. And great to look at.

Sniper

I think your bike's engine is not 92 vintage.

I looked at your photos - I think that is the decompressor but it works off the kikc starter -see the other photo of your kickstarter where there is a linkage behind the kicker?

I htink theres used to be a able there to activate the decomp - it;s the old style which is why I think your motor is 80s vintage not 90s.

Someone else may chime in here.

Sniper I think the engine is 85-86 vintage.

Twin carb models ended in 87-88 I think

That's the auto decompressor. My 83 has that also. There's a short cable that runs down to the kickstarter area of the side cover.

When valves and this cable are adjusted properly, this makes kickstarting as easy as an e-start (well, almost!)
