Going to buy 06 450? JD let kit?

Recommended Posts

Out with the RED and in with the BLUE. Im going to be picking up an 06 450 in the next week and am wondering about the carb mods everyone is doing. I have read about the lean condition. Is the JD jet kit worth it, or should I just pick up some jets and save some money? Is there anything else I should know about also?

Edit: What about chain and sprokets? Can I just get a chain and use my stock sprokets?

Iam no carb expert but all i did was buy 2 jets (larger main/pilot) fit them, installed a zip ty adjustable fuel screw thingy and adjust accordingly to the weather and the bike is awesome.

Never bogs, excellent throttle response, couldnt be happier and all for very little money ?

You really won't need the JD Jetting kit, the bike comes with a 160 and 170 main, along with a 165 in the carb already. So all you need to buy is a couple pilot jets to make it perfect. I run a 48, since it got hotter some riders dropped down to a 45 though.

Other then the jetting, a new chain, maybe a new front tire, and you're good to go man. I'm sure you know about how you need to grease her up when you buy a new bike, and all the other maintenance stuff. Looks like we have another Red gone Blue in the forum!

? You won't be disappointed at all!

Thanks for the replies. Yeah i figure i might as well go Blue before something bad happens to the big red machine. :ride: I have always liked Yamaha and i cannot tell you why i bought a Honda. Im not not knocking Honda or anything because they make great bikes and mine rides awsome. I just ride better on a Yamaha for some reason, more comfortable. And yeah, I am all about the lubing..... ?

What about adjusting the forks up and down in the clamps? Does it help on these bikes?

Here is what 90% of all 06 owners agree on:

the forks will need to be raised to the line, the handlebars are too low, the chain is a piece of junk, and you will need to regrease the steering bearings, pivot, shock & swingarm bearings, front and rear wheel bearings. The jetting is off - go buy a 45 and 48 pj, a 168,and 170 mj and a adj fuelscrew. Most of us have swapped the tires for better traction too.

Once this is done, it is is nearly a perfect ride and will carve turns unlike your red machine and will give you many of hours of smiles and confidence w/o worry of breaking down or valve maintenance fear ....oh yea, I forgot to tell you the suspension will be unlike anything you have ridden before....welcome aboard!

I too am thinking about the JD Jet kit - not for the correct jetting but the throttle difference with JD's needles.......... ?
