How to lower seat height

Recommended Posts

I have an 04 Wr450 that I love other than it is a bit tall in technical sections, I am a little on the short side, What I would like to know is how to lower the seat height without sagging the suspension. I have heard that it has something to do with the sub frame. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes these are some of the options that I know about but I want to know about the sub frame, can you buy custom ones or do you have to modify the stock one. Ricky is a short guy too I would like to know the mods that he uses, I don't want to give up any suspension by shortening there, only as a last resort

The pro's cut about 5mm out of the subframe to lower the back of the bike.

Ricky has no problems touching the ground (he doesn't have to!) but I think he uses taller footpegs to get his ergo's right. I don't think this is what you are after though.

Try the seat foam and subframe trick if you don't want to loose a bit of suspension travel. You can get a lowering link but they only lower the back of the bike and cost a lot more than lowering bike properly and professionally.

Lowering these bikes has been discussed here extensively in the past. Every easy way of lowering seems to have its consequences.

The best way is to just spend the big money and get the suspension professionally modified. I finally did and the bike is so much easier and more fun to ride now. Wish I had done it long ago. I happened to find a guy that did front and back for less than $400.

If you are going to keep the bike for a few years, I recommend it. ?
