I got my XRL in September 05. I have done the carb mods, uncorked and new exhaust on it. I love it! There are a couple of complaints with it like the small fuel tank and high seat height but I have lowered it with a performance lowering link, I just wish the tank were 4 gallons! I have owned a DR650 and I hated it, had way too many problems with the engine. I have also owned a couple of XL250's and loved them. The XRL is pretty easy to work on as long as you have some basic mechanical skills. Not much goes wrong. Good Luck!
Here are a couple of pics of mine.

What muffler is that on your bike kelleyseiler. Did it fit right on without modifying anything, and how does it sound? I have been thinking of a Supertrap but open for suggestions.

It is a Wileyco Stainless for a XR600 but it fit on perfectly, they are interchangable. Installed in about 15min. Heres a Pic from underneath. It sounds Great!

If you want a 4 gal tank, I am selling my 4.7 gallon Acerbis plastic tank for $100.00, but youd need to buy the XR tanks mounts to fit it to your XRL I "think" Im not sure what the tank mounts look like on the L, are they built into the tank?
