2004 wr450 pipe question (yes I searched)

Recommended Posts

I have a stock 2004 wr450 (Canadian if it matters) and would like to replace the silencer with something that opens it up a bit but isn't super loud. Does anyone know the db rating of the stock 04 pipe for reference :ride: . I don't want to focus on top end or bottom end power, if possible I would like to improve it all over without making it hard to handle. Any recommendations on a pipe to use? Also will the other free mods listed here work on an 04?

All input is appreciated.

FMF Ti Powercore with optional quiet core insert is a very good pipe. The pipe is great on the WR450. The stock can is very heavy and loud on the canadian models. Stick to the usual WR mods they apply to your 04. :ride:

What Indy said. But the 04 Canadian version (which is exactly what I bought also) has basically the exact same muffler as the US model except the outlet in the insert is a bit bigger. As for the mods to more HP, you dont need to do any, all done on the 04 Canadian models stock, ie no throttle stop, no grey wire at all, no air box baffles. Its runs like a scalded dog out of the crate.

:ride: Stock, it will be around 90 DB or less. ANd witht he FMF and the quiet core insert, it will be 93 to 94 db

I was just looking at the FMF website and found the Ti Powercore muffler but no mention of the optional quiet insert. Does this come with it or is it purchased separately as an accessory :ride:

Just yesterday, I called FMF racing and ordered their silent packing and quiet core insert for my Factory 4 pipe. Their website doesn't have a lot of information.

Just call them. They are very helpful and will ship you what you need the same day. I paid $53. They are very much into meeting AMA 96db requirements and offer the option for all of their pipes.

My Factory 4 just tested at a stealthy 105.3 :ride: Yes, thats pretty damn offensive.

I am hoping to bring it down 10db's with the packing and the insert. If I can't, I am going to get a whole new can to put on the bike.

I cannot possibly see how I won't have to go down on the jets. However, I will try it with the same jetting and see what happens.

  • 1 year later...

Have you fitted the insert to your factory 4 and had the noise measured? Just wondering what it will be as im considering one of these exhausts but would like the option of 96db's for quiet days.

Cheers

LEnnie.
