Road Ride In Mexico

Hey Guys,

Went for a short road ride in Mexico this past 4th of July weekend on my 05 WR. It's not set up for street or dual sport, however in Mexico you could ride any motorcycle on the streets w/out license plate. Took the old road from Rosarito to La Mission about 25 miles one way. She felt kinda wierd on the corners, top heavy oh ya, but that could also be because I havn't road on a street bike in over 20 years. Last street bike was 78 RD 400(still have it). She had lots of power of course now I could see why you need to gear it up a little as it seems like she was reving kind high for a long period of time. I plan on getin the 07 WR and seting her up for street/supermoto and cal plate. My plan was to find some trails in Mexico, but My buddies pulled out because they're scared.

Does anybody know of some cool trails just south of the border between Rosarito and Ensenada? Met an american dude that lives in Mexico and he rides his CR 500 all over the place down there.

You should Google the Lizard Lady. There may be a link on the Baja Designs web site as well she has what you need. You were about 5 minutes away from some good riding in La Mission. One thing about riding in Mex (I can't help myself) is Mexican auto/motorcycle insurance is not protecting your investment it is for keeping you out of jail if you are involved in any kind of accident there the federales can lock you up while they find out who is at fault (liable) they can do whatever they want. If you ride more than a few time a year you should buy your mex insurance in Mex you can buy a years worth good for any vehical including dirt roads for around $125 if you ride in Mex often you already know this.

Don't know why anyone would be scared to ride in Mexico - it's the best place there is to ride off road (best to have a big tank). If you're into GPS try this website - www.bajagpsguide.com. They have GPS routes all over Northern Mexico. Most of them are south of Ensenada but some are right across the border at Tecate. You can go up into the mountains, across desert sections and all over without having to worry about getting lost. They also sponsor a ride each Fall at Santa Veronica where you can learn how to use a GPS and they even have loaner GPS if you don't have one. By the way, the person who put all this together is a girl!

Half the fun of Baja is finding new places on your own and using your GPS to record your trip, not to use your GPS a crutch. Be prepared and be adventurous!

Beg to differ on your opinion of Kacey (AKA Lizard Lady). She put these routes together along with John Franck (AKA Juan) with support of Alan Roach (owner of Baja Designs). If you ever rode with her, you know she can do it, most guys would have a hard time keeping up with her. She gives full credit to everyone who helped her with the routes and her guide. I think you got your facts wrong.

This is exactly true and correct.

I know a lot of Baja trails, have cut many miles myself, and have been involved with the Los Ancianos MC (the club that is responsible for the vast majority of trail building in Baja) for 30 years, and I can honestly not think of a single trail the LL has built on her own.

Lizard Lady never claims to have "built" any trails in Mexico. She did spend a lot of time riding and documenting the routes with GPS. Anyone has the right to "map" a trail anywhere and what she did to put together the routes and publish them is totally legal and she is in no way "ripping off" anyone.
