How Are the 06s holding Up?

Well, I am really thinking about selling my 1999 yz400f, and my 2003 yz125, and picking up a 2006 yz250f, or 2006 yz450f.

I am just wondering how your 06 yz450fs are holding up so far.

And what do you like/dislike about the 06s?

Mines great...

All I needed was a new chain, and to rejet it for my area. I maintain it very well, and I have about 15 hours on the bike, havent had one problem.

Nah, seriously, grab a new chain, do the chain slider mod, maybe change the front tyre, change to a richer pilot, get some higher bars if you want, and that's about it!

Haha, trust me I know how durable Yamis are.

My 125 went 50+ hours last year on the stock top-end, and still started on the first kick.

My 400 is still on the original everything. Not one problem with it.

I just think that it's time for a new bike...My only problem???

I got the 450 and no problems at all! Normal mods everyone talks about and grease the steering bearings regularly. Awesome machine!!!

The 06 250F's have a yamaha "recall" to fix the valve issue that has grenaded some of them.

I can't decide 250f or 450.

My personal opinion is to go with the 450. My boys have 250F's and they are nimble and scoot pretty well, but the 450 is a whole different machine. It has more power than most sane people could ever use and is a complete blast to ride.

No question , If you are undecided. Get the 450. It feels as light as the 250fs and you never have to worry about deep sand, double or triples out of corners. The 450 rocks and does everything with plenty of smooth power. I run longer faster motos on my 450 than on my 250f. It takes less effort to go fast. just ask my buddies who still have 250f's that take turns chacing me.

I have mine since the end of January and done two WORCS races with it - each an hour long. Not one problem, I love it.

I am a pretty big dude too, 6'-6'1'' about 220 lbs.

Sadly, I don't really like the all low-end powerband that my 400 has...And it's super heavy...I've heard that the 450s are ALOT better bikes.

The only reason that I would get a 250f is because in my local district 125 Novice and Amatuer are SUPER fast and aggressive, and I enjoy that.

And I believe you guys about how light the 450 is. My friend raced a 2005 yz250f last year, only to jump over to a 06 yz250f, and 06 yz450f, and he said when he got off his 05 250f and onto his 06 450 he said that the 450 felt lighter. Which is pretty cool.

So I am probably going the 450 route, I just have to sell my 125, and 400 first.

I have had to replace 4 gears and 2 shift forks on my 06 450. I also have replaced the center cases but that had to do with a aftermarket rear wheel that failed.

Mine runs great. No probs at all. New tires, hgher bar, FMF pipe. I absolutely love this bike.

My 450F runs like new and I have had no issues other than it likes to stall and I think that is more my 2 stroke riding styles fault rather than the bikes.

I replaced the chain, front tire, air filter and rejetted. I also raised the forks and did some minor suspension adjustments after I set my preload correctly.

This is an awesome bike that will serve you well!

Welp, my bikes has been wonderful and I am glad I left Honda for the Blue guy. However, I have been dealing with a major suspension issue. The rear shock has been acting like it is all spring since about the 5 hr. mark. We took it apart and the oil looked like beer foam. We reassembled it and replced with the good Yamaha stuff (SR-1) and rode it for about another 5 hours - same thing. The compression valve looked fine - no tears in the o-rings. The bladder was fine, no oil residue anywhere, etc., etc., etc.

We're kinda at a loss and will be sending it out to Enzo to have it checked out. Really bummed, but I'm at a loss.

Outside that, it is a great machine. Not thrilled on the front end feel, but lowering the forks and changing the tires have helped, but the RMZ my buddy has seems better planted.

Overall, an A for the bike. Little things like I have issue with are more preference than anything.

My 06 is the biggest pile. It keeps eating tires, I have to change the oil all the time, clean filters, It makes me lie to my girlfriend and parents about what i am doing on the weekends. Plus it always makes me come back to this forum and talk to people like you who are obsessed with their 2 wheeled machines.

JK its all part of it. 06 rips cant wait to get the 250f, 450f is a bit too much sometimes. i said sometimes

i love mine, and it has power for days, sell yours and get one, or wait for a few months and get the new 07 in white, or get the yellow a bit cheaper. all i need is the RTT Steering stabilizer

Hated the tires needs a new chain and had to change jets.

But I bent my bars, bent the swing arm, bent the back axle, busted the back fender and bent my exhaust strait into the air. But all of that was my own stupidity.
