What the heck is going on here??

Recommended Posts

I found this forum a few months back after buying my 06 WR 450 (yeah, the outdated cheap one) and was totally blown away with the useful information and the general willingness of the WR community to help answer my questions. I was reading posts here everyday when I was doing the free mods + jetting and was extremely happy with the information that I got and the end results. :ride::ride:

Yamaha goes and introduces the 07 and everyone seems to have gone off the deep end. All the bickering and sniping at each other seems crazy!! I had to double check that I hadn't landed on a Honda forum!!

I think everyone has forgotten here that we all ride WRs, in my opinion the best off-road bike on the planet no matter which model year!?

Of course the 07 is great. Every year is a little better then the last. That's called progress. But for every past model we need to remember that the WR was best bike out there for that year. :ride:

I hope the craziness settles out soon. That's my .02

well 30 people have veiwed and no answer so i'll have a go.

just remember this is opinion only.

the wr in it's current form is basically 8 going on 9 years old and most of the techno's around here have 'seen or heard it all' in some form or another and i believe the collective mental power has reach a limbo point, awaiting the new modifications/ problems/ benefits and has started to feed upon itself.

most will agree that it has lost something, but, when some joined there was less than 10000 members on tt, when i joined there was just under 40 000 and i think now its 80 something, not sure, so the 'personalities' that made the site have been diluted and are not as prominent as they may once have been, which is sad in a way, because i joined simply due to the humour surrounding a guy who used to drag xr 80's with a wr 400 near a 300 acre pond.

i had watched and read for almost two years before joining and it is now a different site.

like anything that is genuinely good and enjoyed immensely by a few, word gets out ( i tell anyone with a wr or big four stroke) and people come.

hope that helps

again only my opinion.

It's summer and there are a lot of kids out of school. Some kids ask good questions. Some act, well... Like kids. Malone, you've not been through summer here. I see this every year.

We're in between models and the 06 stuff has been discussed to death and until the 07 gets in people's hands and figure out what the bike's need or how they can be modded, you'll see more chit chat types of conversations.

People will always come/go on this site. Sometimes they sell the bike they are known for end up elsewhere on the site. Sometimes they stop riding. Sometimes they get bored of answering peoples questions over and over b/c there is little they are getting back in return.

We're toying w/ the idea of user ratings, allowing the community to decide who stays and who goes. So, for example, someone with a join date of years ago, a bajllion posts and who has high feedback from others in the community can rate someone else, both positively or negatively and their vote counts more than a newbie with a join date of a few weeks ago, etc.. etc... While the mods will still moderator, people that act like jackasses can be voted out by their peirs. The system is in place, we just have to define the criteria of who points can be gain or lost. Should be interesting and may solve some of the common problems associated with communities of this size.

the number of posts does not reflect a members value.

have you heard of twoblackbelts?

if someone new disagrees with a long term, high posting, low value person, how will that work.?

systems like that cater to brown tounges and extroverts.

maybe it's another case of acceptance, and if it is a 'summer thing' well it cant have that long left.

maturity should see most well adjusted individuals looking over the small annoying bits.

Right on, it'll be like a virtual reality TV show, but on the intronet! Gee, MXJunky sure hopes he'll get to wear the necklace of knowledge at least once!

Bryan,

The 'user rating' idea sounds like a good one. As someone who hung around for MONTHS before posting for the first time, I've grown a little dismayed at endless questions which could be answered w/ a 10 second search, trolling, etc.

Something to think about...(and you probably already have)...having the user rating based (at least in part) on the number of posts will just serve to have people posting endless one-word responses or just plain garbage. You're hosting enough mindless chatter as it is.

Perhaps a system whereby users can rate a specific post based on the quality of information contained therein, which then contributes to the poster's rating would serve to reward both quantity and quality.

Thanks for everything you do for us,

Ben

Thanks for the feedback Bryan. I agree with Ben that any rating should be base on quality and not quantity.

I hadn't been in the forum for a few weeks and was just caught off guard on how much the tone and the contents of the threads had changed! I guess if it is just seasonal then it's tolerable.

Yes, I understand that. That's why a long time ago I removed town square posting from being reflected in a user's post count. The quality of a member will most likely be highly based upon how the community has rated that member. So, someone with a large post count and having been registered for a long time can theoretically have less clout than a member that is held in high regard by the community, even with less time on TT and posts.

So what you are basically saying is one bad post and you are out?

Friction causes partisipation. It is well demonstrated.

Why not get rid of post counts all together? That sounds good to me.

No, that's not what I'm saying. It will take a lot more than just one person to get you banned. The details have not been determined, so I can't tell you exactly, but it will likely take muliples of people ranking you before you get banned by your peers. Some people's votes will have more power, some will have less, depending upon their ranking, as determined by their peers.

Purely as an example, it might take 20 lower ranking members to get someone banned, but 10 high ranking members, as their votes carry a bit more weight. Essentially, people will collect positive points for being a contributing member and lose points for be an ass.

Now let's not get pariniod out there. I am sure that what ever the owners come up with will be a good solution to the problem. After all, they have done a pretty good job with this site so far, in my opinion.

This sounds like a great idea! You could even even give people extra points based on religion or ethnicity, maybe red state vs. blue state. How about extra points if we buy from the TT store?

Or maybe stupid posts like this one could just be deleted...

"most well adjusted individuals looking over the small annoying bits"

You really need to go right through an individuals previous postings, (some of which may have been removed by moderators) but saved by interested observers ( PM me I will send the full dialogue- or may even post again) to gain a full understanding of how they think, and then change after they are blasted by all other forum users,

XCRACER thinks MXJunky is hilarious. :ride:

LOL: So does OneToGo

...sorry Brian , take one off my count - couldn't agree more with the general sentiment in this thread.

Thanks and keep up the good work TTOwners and members...seriously! :ride:

PS. Any credit for $ spent in TT store?
