2007 Yamaha line-up ... big yawn

I guess Yamaha must have shot their wad on the 50th anniversary model year, last year, because I'm not seeing too much new and exciting for 2007. It doesn't look like much has changed on the YZ line-up, although the WRs did get the new frame. And where is the YZ 150F?

The changes with their quads is not that exciting either. They took the fuel injected Raptor 700 motor and put it in the Grizzly, and added electronic variable rate power steering. Power steering is interesting, but all three Grizzly 660s I've owned steered super easy without it. And that makes two fuel injected Yamaha quads, but no fuel injected bikes yet.

Somebody show me what I'm missing. It looks like Yamaha was pretty conservative this year to me.

You do remember that the '06 YZ450 was supposed to be released THIS year, but delivery was accelerated to late last year, right?

What did you expect, the bike was totally redesigned for 2006. I do admit I was hoping at least one manufacturer would have fuel injection. All new isn't always a good thing, the 2007 KTMs are all new and probably one of the ugliest production bikes I have seen. (just my opinion and yes I know I am about to get flamed).

I hate the sideplates, and oh, and I HATE orange!!!!
Other than that, KTM good bike!

What should they have fixed on the YZ450F? The '06 is a pretty darn good bike.

Think back in the past when Yamaha did a major redesign...it seemed like there was a three year cycle..

'98-'99 YZ400F(yeah I know that is two years)
'00-'02 YZ426F
'03-'05 YZ450F
'06-'08 YZ450F...'08 FI
'09-'11 YZ500F...

I didn't really "expect" anything, but had hoped for fuel injection on the bikes, and an ultralite YFZ 250 quad to bolster the sport quad line-up now that the Banshee is gone.

I really though they where going to up the ante and release some more to there 2-strokes. THey had a chance to gain a significant market share of all 2 strokes this year if they would of changed the plastic and introduc the same changes they made to the 4 strokers.

I didnt expect the silver/white, so to me thats a change for 07! kinda like it cause its different, but not enough to dump 1k extra, happy with my 04's for the time being anyway :excuseme:

I agree, white and red would have been killer. I'm with most of the guys here- you can't really expect Yamaha to do much for 07 with the YZ since (a) we weren't supposed to get aluminum until 07 anyways and (:bonk: they did spend a ton on an all-new bike last year. Honestly though, I don't like the new graphics and I don't think the changes they made are worth the extra $100 on the price tag. Granted, if you wanted to put taller bars and wave rotors on your 06 it would cost you more than $100, but I'm perfectly content with my 06 and my wife is very pleased to hear that I see no reason to upgrade next year :excuseme:

What I really would like is a CA street legal dualsport WR450f with fuel injection. :excuseme:
And I am really glad that they went to the aluminum frame for this years wr line.
The white yz is ok but over time it will look like crap. I still love the YZBlue!
I wish every vehicle had this color for an option.

Yawn??????
the 06 is the best bike still out there.....the 07 has a few updates but is going to be better in the turning and handling dept with the frame changes, shock changes and handlebar changes....the new CDI map/jetting/header will add better power characteristics...the rest is bling - any major changes are not warranted so I am not surprised as yami has refined the 06 in baby steps as they have since 1998.....and as I have said for months.....EFI is not ready for production on any of the Jap bikes yet! :excuseme:

I think it was an ok model year for the four strokes, the 2 strokes got nothing, very untypical for yamaha to not update the 2's. Looks like the end is near. I am going back to 250f though and will keep the YZ250.

No changes?!?!? Do you know how to read? The WR are totally new and the YZ's received a ton of tweaks:

New Pro Taper Bar
Lighter wave rotors front and rear
Lighter redesigned upper triple clamp
Fork is lighter and revalved
Al frames are tuned further for better handling
Engines tuned for better performance
Counterbalancer on 450 is lighter
Seat is redesigned...lighter
subframe is different....lighter
fasteners are different...lighter
rims and hubs are different.....lighter
brake calipers are different....lighter
exhaust is different
rear shock revalved and longer to steepen head angle for better handling

I don't think there is a part on the bike that was left untouched! I'll probably be switching back to blue/yellow/white for 007. I'll be trying an 06 YZ450 in a couple of weeks to compare to my RMZ so I can make a decision.

Amen to that. I told my wife the new 07 Yamaha were out and she thought I wanted one. I have less than 10 hours on my yellow 06.
THE only change I was expecting was EFI, and am glad as of now, that no one came out with it. Seems like all are still dialing it in, which means I wouldnt have wanted to be the one to get one first, not completely figured out. They have efi on their street bikes, and on the Raptor, so there must be something that is not 100% correct, Yet.
.
My brakes are so darn sensitive now that I can deal without the wave rotors. The white plastic is cool, but still diggin my yellow/black. I guess I will get Windham high rise bars, thats about it, and a dunlop 756 front.

I was hoping for EFI for 07 but i doesnt realy matter to me. If they brought it over from a different bike that was succesful with it then i would buy the first year of EFI, but not in the first year with an experimental.

I agree. You can't expect them to redesign a new bike every year. The 07 has had minor tweaks in order to improve the already amazing 06. There is more to it than visual elements. :p

EFI will not be released for a bit (I'm guessing 08 maybe, most likely 09 depending on the outcome of Honda's 07 line-up). It is a marketing strategy. Plus, there is a lot of pressure placed on a company to be the first to introduce EFI, because any faults in engineering could mean major disaster for the pioneering company. On the other hand, they gain a niche if it works. Its the same principle that applies to all business, greater risk provides for greater standard deviation in the results.

Marketing companies like to guage interest off what others do to reduce risk, then hit the market with the "new and improved" bang!

:ride: Just my .02 :ride:
