The new 2007 WR...I don't like it!

Recommended Posts

I don't give a rats ass what a bike looks like. It's performance I'm after.

If that skid plate saves me a hole in the base, then it did it's job.

Graphics and plastic look like crap after a few rides and money can be better spent on necessities like tires and oil changes rather than bling.

If 07 is better than the 06, that is all you can ask for.

I didn't see many changes to either bike (YZ or WR) to warrant dumping an 05 for one. I think its just a good opportunity to get an 06 from the dealer at a good price.

no place to lift the bike. :bonk: the 05 and o6 have the hand hole under the seat and above the plate. the o6 YZ doesn't either, but the bike is lighter and could be lifted by the rear fender. the WR may be too heavy to lift from the fender? :excuseme: dodn't care, i'll figure it out when I get it. :busted:

Here's what got my attention:

Strong new connecting rod and piston oil-jet for increased cooling and long life.

Posts at TT have concerned me about gauling at the wrist pin. Is this really a common problem? I wonder if the new connecting rod will retrofit into pre-'07 bikes.

I like it a lot. It has a lot more bling on it than my 05 did, protapers, adjustable triple clamps, wave rotors, AL frame, TI footpegs (they look like titanium, not sure, still better than 05 OEM), enduro computer, etc. It also has a more modern look than any other 450 off-road bike out there. The plastic skid plate is better than the minimal frame protection offered on previous WR's.

I dont know what you all are complaining about. I think most of you just need time to adjust to the new looks of the WRF. I think it's dead sexy. The headlight, the taillight, the new skidplate (a REAL skidplate!), new wide pegs and all the other cool mods are way improved over las year. I can only imagine how much better the engine is. Every mag loved the YZ450F engine in 2006, along with its chassis. Now it's in the WRF...so you can say goodbye to the CRF450X being at the top of the off-road heap now! I am buying my next bike this fall when I get out of boot camp for the Navy...and I thought I was going to be buying a YZ450F...which I might still do, but now the WRF is looking mighty savvy.

Not for me. I will wait another year and see what my options are! :excuseme::bonk::busted:

Here is what I want my next bike to have:

EFI

6 speed

3 gallons

Chrome Moly Frame

HID light / LED tail

500 CC engine

Off road flywheel and cams

Hopefully 2008 will be the year! :bonk:

I agree (with the exception of the cc's, I personally don't use all of the 450cc that I have?)

To this list, I'd like to see the wr become street legal from the factory and also have a larger oil capacity to better support dual sporting activities (don't know how, just wishing)

btw... lets hope that they come along with EFI soon. Getting to this carb looks like a bit of work

small tank, 450cc, and carb berried in a al frame aside............. i would by another one if they had a 6 speed wide ratio trans!!!! yz/wr's have been amazingly reliable!!!

cant beat dual over head cam shim under bucket!!!!! 5 valve is the bonus!

my next 2 bikes will be:

525exc, 14L tank, 14/51, and armor

{racing, bush, extreme dual sporting}

drz400e, 18L tank, gel seat, 15/46, pro tapers, and armor

{long range dual sport, road, city, commuting}

My next one will be a YZ. If I had to have another " off road " type bike it would be a KTM XC450 with out a doubt. I ride really hard when I leave home and I think the YZ would be more my speed. The MX suspension would be better too so I can ride MX with my friends. I'm not real big on racing but the option would be nice. The WR just didn't go in the direction I was hoping for.

I for one like the new WR. It is a definate step in the right direction.

They look sano, got wide footpegs, fat bars and YZ plastic. I love the YZ plastic.

As for graphics, that's why I love YZ plastic - easy to change to something that looks real good! New light, at least it looks better than the old one.

Although I will not be getting an '07, I will definately be in line for one in '08 or '09.

I would loose too much money if I traded up at the moment. Still want one though!

Still no EFI - doesn't really bother me at the moment. Just means that this year they will be testing it flat out getting it absolutely right for next year. That would have been the one thing that would have really shocked the crap out of me. I just expected a 2006 YZ450F with a headlight, and that is what we got. That is just fine by me!!!

I agree with everything you said.... I think Yamaha did a good job on the new WR.. Yamaha's tend to get the "looking old" comments in many magazine write ups, I think the new look is an improvement. I love the skid plate, plastic skid plates are very effective and light. The frame is nice, I really can't wait to finally ride an aluminum framed WR, all the internet opinions have me curious. The airbox lid is a welcomed addition too... I'd take a close ratio 6 speed if it were an option over the gappy 5 speed but no big deal.. EFI, we'll see it when they perfect it, I'm sure by next year... Pretty much the one thing that bothers me is the price....
