Tweaked Handlebar

Recommended Posts

Hey guys....I took a few spills the other day on my 426. Now when I get the bike straight, the handlebar is crooked and bent. Is there an easy way to straighten this out? Thanks!

Are your bars actually bent, or is the front wheel not pointing straight ahead? If the bars are not bent, the forks might be twisted in the triple-clamps and if so: Loosen the bottom triple-clamp bolts, then stand in front of your bike(facing it) with a leg each side of the wheel(gripping the wheel with your knees) and pull on the bars to straighten up the wheel.

I don't see how that would be possible. On a bicycle, yeah, but on a dirtbke with triple clamps? :excuseme:

If the bars are the problem, you can straighten them....But, that can be a dangerous proposition. When you bend them, and then bend them back, you are creating a fatigued

spot on the bars, that will be likely to go in the event you dump it again.

If you just putter about doing easy riding, than you may be o.k. taking a chance. If you're riding a MX track, than I would just replace them....why take a chance when coming down on some serious jumps, or really putting pressure on them they may give up the GHost.

Some nice bars below for a nice price... $ 59.95

I'm not making this up, it's happened to me, my friends, and even Pro's(most likely every Pro and more than once). It happens all the time. Maybe some day you'll have the pleasure of crashing hard enough. It's probably more common on Dirtbikes than bicycles coz they weigh more, go faster and have triple clamps.

Replace them, watch for sales, i've gotton 3 sets of $80 bars for $20-$30 Cycle Gear always has at least 1 name brand bar on sale at any given time, but dont take the chance, your compramising the strength and structural integrity of the bar, tying down in the truck could be enough to finish them (seen it) and a nice hard landing could be enough to finish you both off! Its hard enough to stay safe with proper working parts, keep the odds even and replace them
