I did this today for the fix on mine, I only rode my new 06 for about 5-8 hours or so and I already had wear:

Is there any groove in a brand new swingarm, maybe for the slider to sit in, or is it flat brand new, my buddy and me are dissagreeing on this, he says there was a machined groove for the slider, and then wore down, Im saying it was flat and the slider wore the entire groove in

No, there is no groove from the factory, it's deffently wear. You can tell by how sloppy the groove looks, you know it didn't come from the factory like that. Besides, mine is just a little bit worn because it's still new, and there was no groove when I first got the bike, just all smooth.
