I've never felt as though the L doesn't have enough power or didn't go fast enough.... at least not on my way to Starbucks. My L does 0-60 in about 2.5 to 3 seconds on MT-21's.

I think Honda stopped making the R because it was so much better in every way and they we're like "hey, let's just sell this slow crappy L that nobody likes instead."

That is fantastic! That has to win picture of the year!! I hate it when you "L" guys sit at the computer with your frap and do crazy photo shop comebacks.....you bald office guys know all the tricks. I am at work (in the office) and I started laughing so hard I scared my apparatus tech at his desk behind me. That is a funny picture.....I like the roosts behind all three wheels!

I think the main part of this thread back when it was started (long time ago) was that the "L" puts out so much lower horsepower numbers then the "R" with the same displacement. A stock uncorked "L" is only 32rwhp and a little over 36rwhp with header/muffler, Uni air filter, Edelbrock carb. (non-pumper). The main reason for this is the extremely mild cam and the 8.5:1 compression piston. The CV carburetor dosn't help. The XR650R is 44rwhp uncorked stock and 47~49rwhp with all the Header/muffler, pumper carb., UNI air filter. Keeping more then 10rwhp for the same upgrades and money on a bike that is fifty pounds lighter is a big, big difference, not to mention the difference in handling once you are off road. Different bikes for different personalities.

This is a good thread but, the all time "L" vrs. "R" thread was started by David for New York (The guy that started Dave's Mod's for the "L" carb.)
It was started "The best bike in the world" ......I think I never really was caught posting on that thread.....well not intill towards the end.......Because of this there was a stop put to deleating your posts after a day or so......

I'd like to wager that my L weighs less than 50 pounds more than your R and that you weigh 50 pounds more than I do, thus cancelling out your weight advantage.

Its really amazing the comraderie between L and R guys..

Also how many pissing contests have erupted between the two! I wonder if this happens with other bike groups?:p

Just want to thank you all for the entertainment and keeping it 99.9% clean.

Yes, if you go by Honda's numbers it is only a 47 pound difference. In real life there is a lot more junk to throw away off a "L" then a "R" to bring the weight closer. Both bikes weigh more then the Honda numbers off the show room floor.

Well if we are going to talk stock bikes dry:

XR650R = 277 dry (more like 284) 44rwhp

XR650L = 324 dry (more like 232) full of fuel ready to ride 358! 32rwhp

My bike with all the extra's full of fuel on a cert scale 328 (almost five gallons of fuel) with no fuel it is about 296, was 308 at one time. Funny how you guys always shy away from horsepower.......
Maybe there is a reason the "L" guys don't need all the horsepower to compensate for......well to help get the girls at the Starbucks.

I weigh 196 right now and that is my heaviest......I usualy run at 186 with nothing. I still have a little hair and I am only in the office about two hours a day so, I can still ride a real bike:p
Still like the little roosts behind each training wheel.
Come on get back to the point.....what is the difference between the power of the "R" and the "L"???? Oh, yay that's right it doesn't matter the "L" is "L"ectric start and it's fun to have tassles on the end of the bars with the little ring ring bell.

My "L" also has 3 pairs of footpegs for those Norge sandwiches. Chicks dig tassles and bells.

I Have not had a bike since My CR500,

A bike that I was convinced that I could handle the power! I actually thought I could manage the power!

Besides, all of my peers were saying "A 500 will get you out of more trouble than it will get you into" ? :prof:

never had problems like I had with the 500. It always seemed when I started to get into trouble (getting tired!) that throttle would just seem to twist by itself! HAHAHA!

I got rid of that bike 20 years ago and bought a Jet Boat and and a Mountain bike and hung out at the river and the beach during the summer! The beer taste better when your standin in water!

Now I am alot older with SONS and they want to ride and I promised them that we would in the near future?

About 3 years years ago we won 2 polaris ATV's in a raffle! My sons bug me to sign up for this raffle :busted: so I did! :p So now I have two Polaris Quads! A 50 and a 200!

It's like God saying here make good on your promise! Go ride with your sons! And than a freind offered me a 1985 XL350R That was just serviced for almost nothing? :busted:

Than I went out and bought for my oldest son 15 yrs old at the time a 1989 CR125 Cheap! needed a rebuild complete, be a good project for him and I! :busted:

Just about six months ago a nieghbor/friend of mine offered me a 2001 Honda XR650L for 300 dollars. I Told him to e-mail me a pic, him being 70 years old and being a little fuzzzy about the details! HAHAHA!

He shows up at my house about two months ago with the bike on his trailer  saying his friend said I cold just have it?

I look at the bike and it was as he described but it looked like it flang out of the back of someones truck! HAHAHA! :p

My oldest son is 18 and has flown the coop! Thank god! HAHAHA! Love the boy just can't be livin with his ass no more! HAHAHA! (Kids, gotta love 'em!)

So now I have three bikes! I love the 125 for kicken around with my youngest son, he will be 8 at the end of July! And a XL350R for sale! And a BEAUTIFUL HONDA XR650L! BRP!

"L" LADIES    I had forgotten how much I loved to ride! I can see that this "L"Ladies! HAHAHA! This bike is really got some potential. Hopefully by fall I will have this bike ready to haul! HAHAHA!

So far I am very Pleased with this "L" Ladies! HAHAHA! So if "L" is for LADIES, than R must stand for????????????

Republicans! Hey I like that! :busted: :busted: :busted:

Hey Martinfan30! My wife and I like the Lake Tahoe area! :worthy: especially when Sammy Hagar is in town! :ride:

Its funny how all these xr guys are converting there xr into xrL's. But the number one thing is l is for lectric. Yeah i am big enough to kick start a 350 chevy if needed, but it is nice to push a button and go.
:p Sorry R guys, just wait till you have to kick that big motor 10 or so times, in the 95 degree heat.
Ill take my 52 hp xrL anyday. I love the easy ride, and the plush seat that I made.
see ya in the trails, oh and by the way ill ride to the trails, then in the trails.
hahahaha
