It varies substantially state to state. For CA I've heard it's next to impossible to get a street plate for a bike that didn't come with one from the dealer.

You can find out from bajadesigns.com. Good luck - I hear it's pretty tough in CA.

I got a plate for my 06 Yamaha WR450 and the emissions label says off-road. I know I got lucky but it cost nothing to go to the DMV and ask for all the forms and do the VIN verification first before you spend any money on lights and stuff or if you know someone that can sign off on the VIN verification form (like someone in law enforcement or a DMV employee) you are home free...

Holy moly, I thought I was the only one that typed just to hear the keyboard click.

You can go down to the dmv with the paperwork filled out and get a plate. Call Dale at Trickdualsport.com and he'll send you an easy to install kit for about 400 bucks. Go riding. My sons CA CRF 150 was plated.

This is how it worked for me.
Installed my DS kit Got every thing working even the horn.
Then onto my stack of paperwork.

3 DMV 256 Miscellaneous statement of fact form's. on this form you will fill out the Vin # for Plate # put down your green sticky number and fill in section J as listed below.

On the 1st form write "I have read CHP form 888 " than Print out a copy and Highlight all the parts that matter. bring it with you to DMV

On the 2nd form write "I want Dual registration and I will pay for both on and off road reg. on road every year, and off road every 2 years . I will also keep insurance on the vehicle." Bring your proof of insurance with you to the DMV

On the 3rd form Write This vehicle has passed the Head and Taillight inspection." Have original of completed inspection form stamped by Licensed inspection station and bring it with you to the DMV

1 DMV form 343 application for title, to amend your existing title into dual registration.

I had Baja Designs do the light inspection report $15.00

Went to DMV in Escondido with my stack of paperwork all clipped together in order along with my pink slip, proof of insurance and a good attitude. I told them I wanted to Dual register my bike, 45 minutes and $79.00 Later I took home my Ca. license plate and a new green sticky.
