Well i am looking for a new bike and it am looking for a wr250f or a wr450f. Is the 450f lots more powerful then the wr250f. Cause people say the wr250f is not to powerful but i have read that the wr450f can move. Help me please. Thanks

your question is whether the 450 has more power than a 250.

what do you EXPECT people to say to you?

if the 450 wasnt more powerful than a 250, then why would it exist?

wow.... what i am trying to say is. How much more hp does the 450 have over the 250 cause people say the 250 does not have to much power but i read that 450 are crazy fast. That what i want to know. Sorry for the confusing part.

I have not ridden the 250 -4 and would not even consider it unless I wanted something a tad lighter - then I would go for something like a 250/300 two stroke.
A 250 thumper does not have much more performance than a 125 [144] 2 stroke - and weighs more.
I grew up on 2 stroke small displacement bikes in times when 4 strokes were strictly for the road. Times have move on and I know sort of what you are asking.
You would need to WRING a 250 4s neck to keep up with a 450 thumper in more open country - no mistake about it. The beauty of a 450 is you can lug or rev it with almost linear power - Dial and GO. The power is addictive but very controllable - if you come from a 250 you will have to learn throttle control.
I think you are asking do you want a 450?? YES, I suggest you bag a ride on a mates and be careful for the first ten minutes.
Then come back and repost - you will then know why you got the replies you did in the first few posts.... :excuseme:

People think of the 450's being uncontrolable weapons. The WR450F sucks ass stock, so you can make it as aggressive as you can handle it for nothing at all.

How tall and heavy are you?
That is the first place to start.

Both bikes suck ass stock. Both need a fair bit of money spent on them to bring them up to scratch.

I would only get WR models if you planned on getting them street legal. :excuseme:

Interesting question... I ride a '06 WR450F, and about 2/3 of my buddies ride similar (KTM, Yami, 450s) - mostly (tighter) trails and a little natural MX track. A few of my riding buddies ride 250F's (Hondas). All these bikes have been "modded" with cleaned up jetting, opened airboxes, and sometimes some pipes. The 450's are clearly faster on longer straights and open areas, but for us, those are relatively few and far between. AND, the 250's are more nimble and sometimes quicker on the tracks. They guys on the 250's don't really have any issue keepin up! :excuseme:

With the 250's, you are going to need to keep the RPM's up, but they will do essentially anything the 450 will do - and they are noticeably easier to muscle around on tighter trails and the track.

Wth the 450's, you have all the power you want, and then some. You can be a bit lazy and leave it in a higher gear and just cruise.

Like almost everything, the BIG trade off.... weight/handling vs. raw power.

Hey, after nearly 15 years of riding two strokes, and now only three years of thumpers, I've given serious thought to either another two stroker or a bored out 250. Go to 302 or bigger in a 250F and that may be a nice a compromise.

Uh, wake up... I'm dreamin... I'll keep the big blue bike for a little while longer... just ordered a bigger tank.

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago and everyone told me to go with the 450. I did and thank God I did because I was so under impressed with the power that I would have hated the 250. I did all of the mods and now love the 450 but know that I would have been bored on a 250. This is coming from someone who had never ridden a dirt bike before so don't even think of getting the 250.

if you are , let say 220lbs or less, then get the 250 or 450 that suits your riding style and terrain. If you are a super agressive rider that is used to the track, then get the 250. If you are very new and learning how to operate the bike, get the 250.

If you are over 220lbs, then get the 450. Keep it corked until you are ready to unleash the power. Although, if you have never ridden a bike before, then, by no means should you get a 450. I personally think that a 450 is for experienced motorcycle riders only. You should already have mastered clutch and throttle control before getting on a 450.

So the real question is 1) how big are you? 2) how much experience do you have?3) what type of riding do you do? 4) Where will you ride?

Generally speaking, a 450 forum will typically recommend a 450. But if everyone knew the answers to the questions above, you'd get more useful responses

I didn't put my weight in my post but I'm only 185 lbs and even though this is my first dirt bike, I can't imagine having a bike with less power. I'm so glad everyone steered me to the 450.

Im about 150 and am going with the 450. I dont think your weight whould be an issue if you can control the bike.

So why not get the 250? When would you actually use the power of the 450? If you ride aggressively in the woods, I would think you'd want the lighter weight/feeling of the 250. You will probably be much faster on the smaller bike (smaller in cc's not physical size)

I weight about 205lbs, I liked the 250. It was pretty easy to control. I ended up with the 450 because it was green stickered in California for the 05 model and the 250 wasn't. But I ride the desert mostly. Open trails, rocky hills, and a few sand washes are where I ride mostly. The 450 works there.

Unless you are going to register it, don't get the WR250F. You will cry with the lack of power. It will cost you a heap to get it up to the standard of a YZ250F.
You might want to think about bigbore straight away with the WR250F. :excuseme:
