HONDA CRF vs XR

I recently went to look at a XR650 and the dealer steers me to the CRF's, what gives ?

Newer designs (not necessarily better for your intended use), more of the "buzz" is going on in the CRF line. 650R is a King, plain and simple. Just because it isn't making the headlines or spotlight detracts nothing from its earned position.

Or as was stated, dealer had more CRF's to sell, or his margin was better on them. A dealer buddy of mine told me that some shops get one bike only. They prefer to hold on to it as long as they can to give the illusion that they have inventory available. This makes no sense to me. If a buyer wants a bike, sell it! So, maybe he was short on 650R's?

No telling what demented thoughts go thru a dealer's mind, really. :applause:

It all depends on what your intended use is, your riding experience, size, etc. The XR is better at some things, the CRF better at others. If you are a 90# new rider looking into getting into motocross, the XR is definitely not for you. We all love the XR here, but you really need to get the bike that best fits your needs.

At least the dealer is keeping it within the family (Honda) :applause:

They make more money on CRF's, they have more, and they need more replacement parts.

Exactly :applause: Not only is the profit margin on the CRFs higher, but by trying to sell you the 450x the dealer is looking at more sales in the parts and service department because of the bikes high upkeep

The profit margin at Honda shops was actually biased towards the big XR here in Australia and at Honda Japan or America the 650 has had no new tooling or jigs for 7 years so it isn't aboot the margin on a new bike.

As good as the CRF's are they will never be classics like the xr600 or 650r or the cr500 .

The XR 650 is a rallye bike and an old concept bike that means it is powerful, reliable, long lasting bike. I have 42.000 kilometers on mine and it is still running perfect. I just changed oil every 5000 kms and that's it.

The 450X is a CR: a motocross bike adapted for enduro use. It is lighter, much easier but. like the CR450R, needs a lot of maintainance, oil changing, valve adjustment, pistons change...

I use my XR as commuter, sual sport, off road.

I love the CRF but I do not dare to buy one and use it the same way.

Because a crf 450 would not smoke but definetly run with the 650 for less weight and less bulk.!

You make it sound like thats all the difference...you're not mentioning the HUGE difference in torque, and engine braking etc. that the 650R brings to the table....It all depends on what kind of riding you do and which bike fits it (and you) the best. And if you opt for the CRF expect high maintenance, seems I spend half my premium riding time waiting for my riding buddies (CRF's) to get their valves adjusted and/or replaced. Now don't get me wrong..I'd love to have both (XR650R/CRF450X) But if you just want to change the oil/clean the air filter and ride with absolutely no worries, I'd stick with my XR always have been and always will be the toughest, most dependable bike ever built! :excuseme:

But...thats just my Honda lovin ass's opinion...I'm sure there's other opinion's :bonk: lol

XR is a philosophy, a concept.

Unfortunately it belongs to the past...

To me, bike with the same concept (at least here in Italy) are: DRZ400E, KTM 625 SXC, the new Husqvarna TE610.

These bikes are studied for dual sporting, the others are race bikes.

The WRF maybe is the more reliable between the race bikes.

Well then let me live in the past.

A lot of WRF's that are a few years old are starting to hand grenade here in OZ.

If i want to live in recent history i will ride my cr500 and in a straight line blow the doors off any modern new fangled race bike.
