06 450 vs 07 450

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm thinking of getting a new 450 should I get the 06 or wait for the 07? Any ideas on changes to the 07. I know the vegas show is on a few weeks away then we will know. Just wondering if anyone has herd anythig so far? Also I have herd of several things that you should do the the 06. Jetting, forks, chain, etc.. What should I do about these issues if I decide to go with the 06? Thanks,

Forks are good for most riders

chain replace just like any other OEM chain..$50 DID ERT2

Jetting...not really an issue.....jet for your location

no official word on the 07's yet however the naked eye can see:

1. Taller bars

2. Wave rotors front and rear

3. redesigned kick starter

4. New graphics.

I am sure there is more....but that is all I can "see".

The 06 can be had for $6000 or less now. I am looking around my house to see where I hid my slush fund :applause:

i just bought my new 06 450 for $5800. 2 weeks ago.. i really glad i waited, brand new models can be a pain in the arse to get stuff for sometimes.. and the 06 models have been tested by most on this site with pretty good results, so you know what you are gonna get. mine came set up and jetted already by the shop i bought mine.. they flat out rule. i have never got a bad bike from them..(vickery motorsports in denver colo) kudos to them...

The new Dirt Bike has a small section on the 07 and they didn't do anything radical. Here is what it says: new jetting, header, perhaps a new ignition curve, of course the wave rotors and taller bars, new graphics, the suspension has gotten some new valving front and back, a new chain guide, lighter subframe, and other small changes.

Where can you find a 2006 YZ450F for $6000????????

I am getting mine tomorrow (sat.) for $5800 OTD at Rock River Powersports in Jefferson, WI. Check them out online, the guy to talk to is named Duke (really nice guy).

They are also selling 250fs for $5250 OTD, not bad either.

wow thats cheap, i had alot of trouble even finding one. There was a used one at one dealership for 6899. some dealerships charge you about 1000 in fees on top of retail for setup/documentation/freight/sales tax and probly something else too. 5800 is a steal i paid retail plus sales tax and that was a deal compared to some dealerships that charge all those other fees.

PRETTY!!! but i still like my 06, if guys would quit buying bikes from dealers that put the screws to you, maybe they would quit boning people on them.. if my dealer boned me id be doing some research and some travel to get hooked up. sometimes deals arent that far away. my buddie bought a honda that way and saved $1500 by just driving 150 miles to new mexico to get it...

07 changes are from DirtBike Mag

taller bars

wave rotors

frame has been reienforced

new valving in forks and shock

new header pipe

new jetting specs....DUH!

frame was reinforced? was the 06 frame weak?... or are they just making it even stronger?

According to DB - quoted

"The aluminum frame has received changes at strategic points to elevate the handling facet of the machine

There is a new chainguide and the subframe is lighter and the handlebars are higher - Brakes are identical to 06 except for the new wave rotors

With the new jetting and new header the ignition curve is slightly updated to give more punch out of the hole

The suspension received updated valving, making it stiffer not harsher

the shock has new adjusters retains the Ti spring is said to offer increased traction to the rear wheel"
