Radiator Guards?

I have a 2000 WR400 and would like to source some radiator guards. I'm very interested in the Devol pieces but their catalog doesn't show one for my year and model. This is not the first time I've had this problem. I'm running into similar issues trying to source out a steering dampener. What model would be identical for parts? 99 WR400 or a 2000 WR426??

UNIBIKERS ARE CRAP.

Both sides crumpled first time over. I just shelled out for a new rad. I am going to custom fabricate some that will acctually do the job. As far as Devol goes, I trashed a skid plate of theirs a while ago so who knows how their other products will be. The alluminum in both the Unibikers and the Devol is too thin. My new Moose skid plate is the real deal. Moose might make rad gaurds.

have no experience with unabikers. but the devols i had offered LITTLE protection i felt...and in one particular crash, the folding of the aluminum devols actually did MORE damage to my radiator than might have happened without them.

Wow, that's the first bad thing I've heard about Unabikers. I have Flatlands guards, and while the radiator did get crushed when a friend crashed my bike into the back of his truck, radiator first into his rear pillar, they have stood up to every trail incident I have thrown at them.

I would concur. Thats the first time I've ever heard anything bad about Unabikers as well. I've had lots of tip overs on my bike with the Unabikers, and the guards still look like new.

I've never smacked a tree with them, but c'mon, how much protection do you really expect from anything that is that small, when it comes to the momentum of an impact against an unmoving object? Sounds to me like a pretty bad crash that would have destroyed any radiator guard, and it just happened to be a Unabiker that was installed.

I have Flatlandracing guards on my 250. They have taken much abuse. There was one hard crash, where I went into a 2.5 foot x 4 foot wide trech that I did not see until I hit at about 40 mph. The guard bent a little bit, but the radiator was OK.

I just yesterday installed a pair on my 450.

They are about $80.

I put a dampener on my 2000 wr400 over the winter. Most part numbers crossed with a yzf. Same with the radiator guards. I have the devol they work great.

Thanks for the answer I was looking for. I am also thinking that some 2000 WR426 part numbers would work.

For everyone else- I'll have to check into the options that were tossed up there. I had just heard good things about Devol's in local circles.

I just purchased two sets of unibikers for my sons 00' YZ426 and my 01'WR426. The quality of the fit was disappointing at best. Admittedly one side of the YZ radiator was not perfect but it did not matter as the fit of the guard on the pristine un-bent side was poor as well. My WR radiators are absolutely like new and I still needed to slot the inner holes of the guard as the center to center distance was off a bit, along with other tweaking. The front panel of the Unibiker was a little too wide so the guards wanted to push outside edges the radiators back to line up the holes which messes with the shroud fit as well. I have been working with and fabricating aluminum for 20 years in my career and I am no stranger to making things work, but I thought paying +90 bucks a set would buy you a little more quality than this.

FYI IMHO - Moose (Utah) skid plates are the hot setup.

Something was not right. I have installed and rode on 5 set of unabikers without any problems. My best friend stuffed his Unabiker THROUGH is shroud and NO damage to the rad at all. Mine have taken some really nasty crashes with no ill effects at all. I will say the fit is very tight, and if the bike or rads are out of shape at all they can be very difficult to install. Both sets I have installed on brand new bikes have went on like a dream however. I have looked at almost all other brands of rad guards (not flatlands though) and I dont think any of them hold a candle to the Unabikers. Although after WC saw the Unabikers for the 06's and pulled their oringinal product and replaced it with a shameless replica of the Unabikers, theirs look pretty darn close.

5valve, nice job ! Thinking of doing something similar, could you give some details on them ? What did you use for the cross braces ? (threaded rods, tubing, ??).

Another vote for FlatLand racing guards. Unfortunately, I have tested their strengh many times and they are doing great.
