Well, I just sold my 2001 YZ426 to my buddy over the weekend, I've had her since BRAND NEW, never had a single problem with her ever and she's been rode hard, but always WELL taken care of...
Now, for my question:
Do I hold out for the '07 YZ450 or get a good deal on an '06??? Does anyone know of any changes being made that would make it worth waiting for an '07

Go out and buy one of those 50th anniversary yellow 06 yz450. The Yamaha shop near me has one and it is awesome with protapers stock and hurricane graphics. I would not buy a first year efi bike. just my 2 cents

That is true, it will probably take a couple years to work out all the EFI kinks, besides I like working on carbs...

I have felt your pain....I hated to see my 01 426 go....

Rumor has it (and we all know rumors) that the 07 will not have EFI. It will have wave rotors, new graphics, a new kick starter, and much needed TALLER BARS.

I am sure there are other tweaks. The whole EFI things is hush hush as the manufacturers all want to be first. Looks like Suzuki may be first.

I am trading in my 2002 YZ426 this week and I will definatly be sad to see it go aswell. This bike is the hands down winner, best bike I have ever owned, most reliable bike I have owned and who ever buys it is getting a hell of a bike. The only thing that makes me feel better about getting rid of it is the shiny new 06YZ450 :applause: I can't wait.

I have a terrible dilemma myself. I have an 01 and want an 06. Why? I don't know for sure. I still race my 01 and it is so much fun showing up to the line with all the new bikes and people look at me like I'm a freak. Then I go out and do really well in the Senior class - having won a few motos with 25-30 guys on the track! Here is a photo from my last moto win! http://www.mxphotogr...agepage933.html

I know what you mean. I still feel competetive with my 426. When I finally do upgrade to a 450, I will probably keep my 426 and put some super moto wheels on it. :applause:

I was thinking...
when EFI does become available, do you think it will be possible to swap the carb on an 06 or 07 bike with an EFI system? seems like it would work... :applause:

my 06 yz450f is awesome. you are gonna love it. just got it 2 weeks ago, yamaha is putting out some deals to move these things, got mine for $5800. was on a 01 yz250 and now i don't know why i waited so long to swing a leg over a 4 stroke. i never even rode one before i bought the 06 yz450f.. one of my buddies rode it yesterday (he has an 04 yz450, and a 02 426) he loved it, said the power was so much better on the 06 he also loved the feel of the forks.. i'm now a believer. anyone want to buy a yz250? :applause:

Let me tell you a little story...

About a month ago I sold my beloved '01 WR426, as I had scored a killer deal on a practically new '04 WR450.

I couldn't believe I was selling my '01 - this was the most reliable and trustworthy bike I had EVER owned, bar none. I felt like a traitor. Never again would I find a bike with the same blissful combination of reliability and power.
I was trading in my trusty steed for what I felt was a lot of glitz and glamour on the new bike. I even turned down one one guy's offer because I didn't think he would give my '01 a good home. Finally, I got her sold, and I swear there was a lump in my throat as the old girl rolled down the street in the back of someone else's truck. It was like the end of Old Yeller, and I was pulling the trigger.

Then I went and rode the 450 a couple of times. Let's just say Old Yeller is a distant memory.

This new bike is WAY more powerful, WAY lighter, WAY quieter, is WAY easier to work on, and has electric start to boot!

I could not believe how much difference there was between these bikes. I can change the oil and air filter in literally half the time on the '04.

If I had had any idea of how much better these new bikes were, I would have made the switch a long time ago. Remember, I'm talking about an '01 vs. an '04 here. The '06s have to be even better.

Trust me. After a couple of rides on the new bike, your heartache will be forgotten.

Ben

I hear ya 642MX! Definately keep it. I will still need spare parts for mine after your upgrade. (Like your spare 19 inch rear wheel) :D
