06' 450. What a Beast!!!

This week was the third time I got to ride my new 450. Now that it's broke in and I have the suspension set I really got to see what it's made of, one word-WOW! "Floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee" as they say. I won't go into great detail saying how unbelievable this bike is since most know by now but I will to tell you about a section of the track I was at that this bike shined. There was a new 95 ft. semi-uphill tabletop with about a 70 ft run out of a flat corner, 250's didn't stand a chance and most 450's were having a very hard time making it all the way. Long story short by the fifth lap I was coming out of the corner in 3rd gear and grabbing 4th before the takeoff and I sailed over it everytime no problem, no rev limiter, no stretching it, just smooth sailing. I rolled up to the owner of the track and overheard plenty of riders complaining about the change when he told them they should just get a Yamaha since I had no problem making it, that's when I realized out of 30 or so bikes I was the only 06 450 yami there. Boy I had a good smile on my face as I just rolled away to my truck. I justed wanted to share what an amazing powerband this thing has, I wasn't the fastest rider there by any means and guys on Kawi's and Honda's just couldn't get over why I could make it and they couldn't. Anyway I hope you guys enjoy your 06 450 as much as I do!!

just ordered one yesterday. i traded in my 03 crf450r, and left it at the dealer because i just didn't want to deal with it anymore. however, it's great weather this week-end and i'm jonesing to ride, but with my luck, i'll do damage to it before trade-in, so it's safe there and i pick up my new ride soon.

going fromyour cr to the yz is goona be huge. you will love the yz. I had an 04cr my brother had an 03 and that difference was huge. Now going to the yz was awesome.

It reflects my sentiments concerning the bike. It is making me a better rider. I can do things...new things....that I could only imagine before.

Me and a couple of riding buddies went down to southern California to ride over the winter... You could have thrown a blanket over the 3 of us.

Since the season began and I purchased the YZ450F, they are wondering where I found all this speed.

Until you ride one, you won't believe how good it is.

I have had slack jawed "A" riders come back to me after riding my bike with $hit eating grins on their face.....saying....man....that is a whole lot of bike!

See, that's when you can tell. People unfamiliar with the bike will ride my '03, and they're impressed and everything, but they come back looking sort of pale and nervous, like they feel lucky they lived through it, and like the experience was bad for them somehow.

Watching someone come back from the first time on an '06 is like seeing someone who just discovered girls or something.

I hear you. The bike is unbelievable. I was riding yesterday, Tuesday, Sunday and Saturday. And riding again tomorrow. Like I had re-discovered it all again.

Geez, the way you guys are drooling over this thing, you'd think you've never ridden a modern motocrosser before!

Compared to my past YZ250 and RM250, my 06 450 is an overweight turd that has a hard time getting out it's own way in the corners!

'06 YZ450: 220 pounds

You can really feel that 9 pounds, eh?

The two '06's I've ridden were the best cornering MX bikes I've ever been on, including a YZ250, but that's my opinion. If you're having that much trouble with yours, your setup is probably at fault, and/or you're just not used to 4-strokes yet. To me, even though it is a little heavier in fact, the '06 YZF feels as light as the YZ250.

I totally agree! I came off a 2003 YZ250 and my 450 feels just as light if not lighter on some parts of the track. I can understand that this bike is not for everyone but once you get them set up they just flat out work, no questions about it.

Just yankin chains here! I figured I would have gotten a few caustic remarks by now!

I do like the 06 450, but since it the first big 4 banger I've owned I will admit I'm still getting used to everything. Besides having only about 8 hours on it, I'm also just returning to riding this spring after having my ACL repaired.

I do know that my cornering speed is still not up to snuff but thats prolly more related to my knee paranoia than anything else at this point.

I was getting ready to blast you.,..but you came around....open up the throttle and gear up in those corners...you will be very surprised how much better it corners compared to the 2 250's you owned

For your knee paranoia, speaking as someone with no ACL in his right knee, go get a pair of Asterisks (at least one for your bad knee). Really.

Sorry for being OT here for a moment.

I've actually had a pair of CTI2s for a number of years, I still wear them, even though I lost my confidence in them after tearing my ACL. Most docs will tell you that there really is not a brace made that will prevent ACL injuries.

True, I have Asterisks, but had my ligaments torn. I just wonder what would have happened without them.....
