Can I get the top end off a 650L without pulling motor out of frame?

It can be done. It helps to rotate the valve cover when doing it. It can be a pain in the butt though.

Yes but the airbox and carb have to be pulled to take the valve cover off. I just rebuilt the topend and had to do the same. The hardest part is working the valve cover out, after that its cake.
