Just bought a yz426f whahooooooo!!!!

Good luck, If the head was beat, most likely the rest of the motor is trash too. Once you do get it running good luck starting it, those bikes are a bitch to start. I had one.

My 426 always starts on the first or second kick.

Might be true about the rest of the motor being beat...but &%$#@! are you talking about being a bitch to start? Mine starts on the first kick 90% of the time. Sometimes I have to kick it 2 times to get her going.

I am really happy cuz I got a great deal. But like so many others, I need a head. Mine is beat up in the chamber with dented seats and beat up lifter bores. Who can fix a wasted 426 head?

Eric Gorr, Crowerpower, Langcourt, or purchase a new replacement from yamaha

My 99 yz400f almost always starts first kick too..

But ive gone through 3 head gaskets now and i gotta tear it back down and get the head milled and maybe the deck of the cyl..

So before you put it together id have a machine shop check to make sure the head is 100% flat.

Disagree strongly with the starting comment, I havent had hardly any problems with starting. Its all about the technique. If you take the time to learn the proper procedure your life will suddenly become much easier.

Good luck and don't give up!

I've used Gore and can attest to the quality of his work. I think he's temporarily closed down right now, thoug. Engine Dynamics in Nor Cal has a good rep, too.

I already installed a fresh crank. I honed the cylinder. I am going with a stock compression wiseco piston. I agree about the the 03 exhaust cam. I will go ahead and install the auto decomp cam in whatever head I end up with. I decided from reading TT to install brand new valve springs. I need to tighten the front spokes, replace the wheel bearings and buy some new renthals. I also need to come up with an ignition cover. Im really anxious to ride my 426. :ride:

Thanks guys for the info and experiance. i will keep ya'll posted on my progress and thanks again.

I may have finally found a keeper dual sport. I had a 99 husaberg fc501 that I bought to put a plate on but I was worried it would blow up from the horror stories I used to hear about the bergs. Most people are suprised to learn that my bike wieghed 219lbs with an honest 55 horsies  55 hp and it held less than 1 quart of oil. And unlike the yamaha, the valves needed constant adj. factory reccomended oil and filter every 5 hrs, valve adj every ten. skip out and its rattle-pop-bang. Although mine never did break, it took away from my enjoyment worrying. Then I bought an xr600 that I plated but I blew it up on the PA turnpike. What a bruiser that pig was! enough said about the faded red turd. Then I picked up a husky wxc125. yep, put a plate on it. had a six speed enduro tranny, was fun on the freeway in six with a mean little 2 stroke. man, the looks i got on that. wieghed 205 with lights. i used to take that bike on my sailboat for some fun exploring on the east coast.

The berg was too fragile, the xr was too big and the wxc was a 125 two stroke. But this yz426 seems to be just right!! sorry to blab
