How much for a suspension

Recommended Posts

I decided to bite the bullet and get my suspension professionally done. There is a RaceTech approved shop about 40 minutes from me.

I got quoted about $900 for the full setup, springs, valves, shims, labor, etc...

Engines and trannies I can handle. But I am suspension stupid, so I have to pay someone who knows what they are doing.

Is this the going rate? $900???????

Will it be worth it?

I truely believe $900 is too much. You should be able to get them way down.

If you think about it, how much is a gold vavle kit for each end? Then how much for springs for each end? Then add in the oil and nitrogen. Guarenteed it doesn't come anywhere close to $900, so they are ripping you off for less than 1/2 a day's work.

In comparison, in Australia it costs us about ~$300 for a re-valve ($US210) and $300 for springs ($US210). so that is equiv. to $US420 for revalve, springs, as well as oil, gas and labour.

My fiance's suspension cost me $610 ($US427) for springs, revalve, and lowering.

Bottom line, if you add up all the parts, they are really ripping you off for labour!

What, do they charge $150 an hour over there?

Hi,

I payed 220 euros for front and back end shimming, seals, oils.

I also bought new springs for supermoto and those were 100 euros for 2 front springs and another 100 euros for back spring.

So this will total 420 euros which is $530

This guy has guided 5 world champions with their suspensions.

There's a one man shop in Santa Clarita, CA called Straight Line Suspension. Give Kenny a call. He lowered my bike by modifying the supension for $300. My guess is that he would revalve for under $500, maybe less. I'm traveling this week and don't have the number with me.

Many people on this board don't care for how race tech revalves. I have no idea why, I just see it a lot.

My XRs shock has a gold valve stack in it and it works perfectly for trails.

My YZs shock was revalved and refurbed by a local guy in Denver for less than 200. Neil Hores from Hitchcock Industries. He also gives you one or two revalves if you are really picky to get it perfected which is a helluva deal.

The YZ shock is the best suspension I've ever had.

Before I commit to the $900+, is there another option other than Race Tech? I am not aware of any other place that makes suspension components.

This price was a worst case scenario for everything, including the gold valves.

I don't know how much work it is, however, I was told I could save $150 by removing the forks myself.

Well, I would want to save $150 if the total cost was $500. But at $900, the $150 doesn't seem as significant.

I'm in Los Angeles, can someone PM me the names of places I could go to get a comparison.

If you're in LA, try Precision Concepts in Temecula, give em a call, you can try Pro Circuit in Corona, both of this shops know suspensions really well and both re-valve to SoCal terrain, 900 seems steep to me.. ?

I have a friend who looked in to race tech but he was also quoted 900+ I think that is just a standard price. he eventually went to too tech in torrance because he was a lot cheaper me I am getting ready to buy a wr and I think I will probably either go to enzo in oc or factory connection. just so your know it could be a lot less if you don't need springs and such but overall if you are just dropping the bike off and they are doing everything I think it is a good deal.

MXJunky just dropped his '05 off at a local shop to have the suspension revalved, and new front and rear springs (which MXJunky had already purchased) installed for $375. The guy is rumored to be real good, a local big name race family runs homeboys shit, if it's good enough for them, it's good for MXJunky. Nine hundred smackers is too steep.

do you find your suspension is not up to the task? or are you upgrading for racing only? im asking because I have a WR450 on order and im 250 pounds, Im thinking i may need new rear spring at least...

Yep, you definately need new springs and revalve.

I am 240lb and went to .50kg/mm front springs and 6kg/mm rear spring.

Stock suspension is not up to the task. It really struggles with our kinda weight, seing as it is ment for people around 150lbs :ride: .

You can't really just get new springs, as the valving is then way too soft. Been there, done that, never again. It is soft to begin with.

Look around, get quotes, get the suspension done. With a new WR, all you really need to get is get a slip-on muffler, jetting kit, fuel screw and get the suspension sorted. That's really it. :ride:

MXJunky is 200 pounds, and rides his Dub on the track more than trail. The suspension just doesn't hang in bigger whoop sections.

I live in a small area in canada with no specialty dealers around at all, so it's gonna be tough, IM not planning on racing this thing, only drive it to work (dual sport kit) and some old dirt road/trail driving. I may get away with the softer suspension, i guess i will soon know.

I used Dick's (dicksracing.com) for my '04. $400 to revalve both ends, plus $20 shipping each way. Turn around was about 7 days. Couldn't be happier.

Jerry

PS- I've ridden other WR's with racetech valves, and my suspension is better for harescrambles.
