I have a 1988 XR600 that I am replacing the front brake hose on. The old hose had a straight compression fitting on the lever end. The new hose has banjo bolt fittings (all 1994 or newer XR's are this way). I have all of the necessary hardware.

However, I'm not sure how the brake hose mounts (which end is which). The new hose has about a 6 inch length of clear vinyl outer cover tube slipped over it at one end and just the black plastic hydraulic tube at the other. Which end gets the clear vinyl shrouded portion? The lever end or the caliper end? Can someone look at their bike for me? A XR650L should be the same.

The clear vinyl goes at the bottom.
