Enclosed trailer flooring

I'm looking to do something with a new enclosed trailer but am undecided so far. I would rather not lay the vinyl checkerboard stuff and instead would like some input on coatings or paints. For instance, would you recommend going with a grey or black?

If you had to do it over what would you use?

What I did in my trailer was asphalt tile. you can buy it at home depot and you can get many different colors. I did the checkered board pattern on mine. I have had it in since 2001 and it still is holding up great. You don't have to worry about dropping something on it and ripping it like vinyl. Just make sure it warm when you put it down.

I used two part epoxy garage floor paint. Had it 6 years and the stuff is tough as nails. So far fuel and oil haven't even put a stain on it.

I havent done it yet, but would use that "rubberized" coating and I'd get grey, grey will brighten it up a bunch in there!

I love the aluminum diamond plate. I little pricey, but well worth it.

I put a rubber flooring in mine it was the black and had the pattern of checker plate metal (diamond plate pattern). Looks great and very easy to keep clean. If you ever spill any oil or gas easy to clean and no gas odour will get into it. But if money was no object I would get it sprayed with sprayed in box liner material.

I was going to go with linoleum floor tiles and actually bought them - ended up returning them for two reasons...

1. Weight.

2. Not fuel resistant.

And then I looked at epoxy garage floor paint - but the can said to avoid using it where moisture would come through the back side - given that I live in the northwest u.s. - I crossed this one off the list...

I went with herculiner do it yourself bedliner kits - available in grey.

Where are you in OR? I have a 6x12 and want to do something with the floor. I Watersealed it when I first got the trailer, but I think I could pressure wash what's left of it off, and I am leaning towards herculiner. I would like to see what yours looks like if your close to Portland / Hillsboro.

I think they mean like a concrete basement wall where the walls are up against dirt. I don't think you'd have a problem with plywood that is not in direct contact with water.

My trailer has aluminum diamond plate. I would not recommend it. It looks great but is super slippery with your riding boots on. The ramp is like trying to walk on ice if it's just a tad wet.I can't even push my bike up the ramp unless it's completely dry (ramp and your boots). I was going to have the ramp sprayed with Line-X as I have it in my truck bed and it's fantastic. I say "was" because the guy quoted me about $400 just to do the ramp....

When I painted the floor inside the trailer I just used the standard two part epoxy paint but on the tailgate I added the non-slip texture. It's an additive that you put into the paint. Home Depot sells it. I would not use the texture on the main floor as it makes cleaning up oil/fuel spills a lot more difficult.

Which color did you go with?

I have black and my friend has grey Herculiner. They both have held up very well, but the grey seems to show more stains.

I used dark grey. The paint is made by Litex and it's 2 part waterbased epoxy floor coating. I got it at Home Depot and I believe they still carry it. It's in a plastic bucket. I can't say enough good about this stuff. I've spilled oil and gas on it and it just doesn't stain. I like the grey because it looks good, easy to clean and easy to see stuff on when you drop things (like little bolts, etc).

have one with carpet in it and it's a PIA. every time somebody jams on brakes going in or out carpet slips from under the sill at the ramp door. two part paint works great.

Thanks for all the information guys. I went to Home Depot this weekend and bought a two part epoxy in grey which I'll apply in the next couple of weeks. FYI - They don't carry Litex anymore just a Rust-Oleum brand product.
