I currently own a 00 DRZ400E and will be doing some trips to Sand Mountain with it. I'm trying to get a complete rear wheel set up with a paddle tire on it so I can do a quick swap. So far my options I've seen for hubs are Z hubs, Rad hubs and Talon hubs. A Talon hub set up is $100 more than the Z hub and Rad hubs are somewhat in the middle. Does anyone have any reasons I shouldn't go with the cheaper Z hub?

Second question. I'm planning on buying a WR450 in a few months. Will this rear wheel set for the DRZ fit the WR (or a TT-R 250 which is my second bike)?

z hubs, meaning oe hubs? if so, i'd sat there's nothing wrong w/oe hubs.
as far as interchanging between a wr or a tt-r, i highly doubt it. but i could be wrong.

No I found an actual manufacture that makes 'Z hubs' which is not related to a specific bike like the DRZ or it's OEM parts. It's just another aftermarket part. I'm just baffled that a complete rear wheel is $500. I still have to get the tube, bead lock and tire which will probably be another $100. I'm trying to locate a used one, but so far no luck.

Get the Talon with the interchangeable carrier. That way you can use it with the WR by just getting a WR carrier.

I tried the paddle tire on my 01 DRZ400E, and I had to gear way down 13/47. Also, when I jumped the tire hit the fender before bottoming out.
Now, I run a MX tire in the sand with 15psi and it works well plus I can ride hard pack. The drz has enough weight to use a nobbie. :ride:

Glad to hear theres another DRZ sand lover :applause:
