My only drawback with my DRZ is the lack of a 6th gear. Has anyone ever changed the tranny to a six-speed? Could it be economically feasible? I have 14/47 gearing- bottom end is perfect, top end too whiny on street.

They either need a sixth gear or the 5 sp should have a dual range. IMO the dual range would only add minimal weight and really extend the versatility of this bike.
I love riding mine on the street with stock gearing and I don't want to give that up for the necessary lower dirt gearing. A dual range tranny should eliminate that problem.

Ha, ha- very funny stuff (but don't give up your day job!).
The reason I asked is because I just bought a new Harley Heritage Softail Classic with a five speed trans and the manufacture's accessory catalog has a 6 speed trans kit for it.
But I think I found a solution:

However, I would never give up my DRZ. Got too attached while transforming it from meek performer to pretty awesome beast.

When I go riding, I need to ride about 1hr. north on the highway to get there (and 1hr. back. Duh.). Having the ability to cruise at 65-70 without the bike screaming to be shifted would be nice.
I sent in a Suzuki customer service survey when I got the bike and specified that I would like an RMZ450S with a 6speed tranny. Apparently they didn't value my opinion!!!

I guess when Suzuki went from the DR to the DRZ they had to cut costs. :bonk:

A 6 speed would be ideal, or a dual range transmission but really all the bike needs is a lower first and taller 5th or just one of them.
If the taller 5th idea won't work due to the cases then I wonder if 1st could be shortened? All I really want is the same first you get with 14/47 and the 5th with 15/41. Not a huge change but it would be nice.
